“That’s not music that I would listen to. Would you listen to One Direction, sat at a party with your girl? I wouldn’t. To me, that’s not an insult, that’s me as a 22-year-old man. As much as I was in that band, and I loved everything that we did, that’s not music that I would listen to. I don’t think that’s an offensive statement to make."
Oh man, the fangirls are gonna drag him for saying this. But it's unsurprising and idk why anyone would think ANY of the boys had complete control over the music they made. Idk why they would think any of them sit around bopping to something like Best Song Ever. They have a few publicly playable songs, but even then, they always sounded geared towards what Harry wants to do.
Zayn has a great voice and great taste in music, but I'm worried he's gonna get caught up in trying too hard to be taken seriously and having it backfire on him. I love him, but he's too sensitive and cares too much about how he's coming across. He needs to let the music speak for itself and not veer off into being too (I almost hate this word bc so many people use it incorrectly now) pretentious.

The whole interview is a kii. He thinks he really is superior to the other 1D members
Cant wait for Harry to go solo and demolish Zayn's non existent career. He's the Kelly Rowland of the group at best

I don't see the drag, he basically said he didn't like the music they made. It was pretty obvious he wasn't feeling at his place in 1D
And he didn't lie, if I was on a date and the guy start playing 1D, I'll think it's a joke or that I'm getting punkd

I completely understand your points in this entire post.
However, Made in the A.M. is clearly far more moving towards the boys' musical taste, and so was FOUR. I believe what Zayn said about feeling ostracized due to the R&B tinge to his voice and the producers going for a pop delivery though.

This entire thing is starting to serve me ARTPOP scope teas. It won't end well, in my opinion.

I'm weak and I'm glad he is doing interviews and showing his persona instead of that quiet mysterious shadow Simon cooked up

The way he describes it encompassing many genres and being about a transitional stage in his life, as well as how up-in-the-air he wants his image to be makes me nervous. But it'll be interesting to watch nonetheless. He also has nothing to lose.
