Usher's 'OMG' Leads Hot 100 For A Fourth Week
Usher maintains his perch atop the Billboard Hot 100 for a fourth non-consecutive week with his monster smash "OMG," featuring will.i.am. The track moves 2-1 on the Radio Songs chart (139.5 million listener impressions), extending his lead among male artists for the most No. 1s on that 20-year old Nielsen BDS-based list with his seventh chart-topper. Only Mariah Carey, with 11, has earned more. On a less positive note, "OMG" drops from the No. 1 slot on Digital Songs (1-3) as sales decline by 4% to 227,000, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Moving back to No. 1 on Digital Songs is Katy Perry's "California Gurls," featuring Snoop Dogg (3-1) with a 16% gain to 269,000. The title is the first track to debut at No. 1 on Digital Songs, relinquish the top spot the following week and subsequently return since Beyonce's "If I Were a Boy" in November 2008. Meanwhile "Gurls" surges 15-10 on the Radio Songs tally in its third week on the list, the fastest climb into that chart's top 10 since T.I. also needed three weeks with "Live Your Life" in October 2008. On the Hot 100, the track increases a notch to the No. 2 spot where it debuted two weeks ago
For the second week in a row a title is pushed down 2-3 on the Hot 100 while earning the Airplay Gainer award. Last week it was Perry's "California Gurls." This week B.o.B's "Airplanes," featuring Hayley Williams, holds the distinction. "Airplanes" improves by 19 million listener impressions to 96.7 million, jumping 8-4 on Radio Songs, while holding at No. 2 on Digital Songs with 235,000 (up 1.5%). Meanwhile, B.o.B's former No. 1 "Nothin' On You" slips 5-7.
Ke$ha reaches the top five for the second time in her young career as "Your Love Is My Drug" rises 7-4. First single "TiK ToK" spent nine weeks at No. 1 while "Blah Blah Blah" peaked at No. 7.
Taio Cruz takes a step back on the list with a 4-5 drop for "Break Your Heart," while Lady Gaga's "Alejandro" holds at No. 6.
La Roux's "Bulletproof" lifts into the top 10 (14-8) thanks to increased gains at both radio and retail. The title jumps 11-7 on Digital Songs (119,000, up 22%) and 22-17 on Radio Songs (up 11%).
Rounding out the top 10 are Train's "Hey, Soul Sister" which returns to the upper tier (11-9) and Eminem's "Not Afraid" (9-10).
The "Glee" Cast once again dots the Hot 100 with six titles on the list, but only one new entry, "Beth" at No. 72. In a rare occurrence, two "Glee" tracks make jumps on the chart, something that has happened only two prior times among the 54 titles the TV troupe has placed on the list in the past 54 weeks. "Poker Face" is the chart's Digital Gainer, jumping 100-20, while "Bad Romance" rises 86-54. As was the case with the two prior chart-jumpers, "Somebody to Love" (85-28 in the Oct. 17, 2009, issue) and "Defying Gravity" (99-31, Nov. 28, 2009), the new tracks were made available digitally the week before the episode which contained the performances aired. "Poker Face's" digital downloads improved by 353% to 109,000 (66-9 jump on Digital Songs), while "Bad Romance" saw a more moderate 44% spike to 48,000.
This season's "American Idol" winner and runner-up make a more tepid entry onto the Hot 100 and Digital Songs charts than in past years as Lee DeWyze sends three solo songs onto the Hot 100, Crystal Bowersox one, with the pair teaming up for a fifth debut. A year ago Kris Allen and Adam Lambert combined for nine chart entries in the week that followed the season finale.
DeWyze takes the chart's Hot Shot Debut at No. 24 with his coronation song "Beautiful Day." Assuming a dip in rank next issue, the title will be the lowest peaking "American Idol" winning performance and only the third to fall short of the top 10, joining Jordin Sparks' "This Is My Now" (No. 15) in 2007 and Kris Allen's "No Boundaries" (No. 11) last year.
Other debuts from the "Idol" finalists are DeWyze's "Hallelujah" (No. 44) and "The Boxer" (No. 88), Bowersox's "Up To the Mountain" (No. 57) and the pair's "Falling Slowly" (No. 66). As a reminder, many of the contestants' songs have been available for purchase in the iTunes Store for weeks now, but -- as has been done in years' past -- their weekly sales are withheld from SoundScan (and from appearing in the iTunes Store's own popularity lists) so as to not influence the voting public in the course of the season.
Also new to the Hot 100 is original U.K. "Pop Idol" winner Will Young at No. 81 with "Leave Right Now," a track he performed on the "American Idol" finale May 26th. Paramore debuts with "The Only Exception" at No. 90 and Cali Swag District starts at No. 91 with the dance craze-inspired "Teach Me How to Dougie."
Rounding out the debuts are J. Cole at No. 92 with "Who Dat," "Sex Room" by Ludacris featuring Trey Songz at No. 98 and "Super High" by Rick Ross featuring Ne-Yo at No. 100.

It's was the song they used on American Idol when a person was voted off. He performed it on the night the top two performed for the finale, and its digital sales went up enough to chart in the Hot 100.
