I roll my eyes everytime I see these stans using Europe as a scale of "global". It's very white supremist/eurocentric to base globality on European charts as though Latin America and Asian don't exist. And someone silly in this thread said "most of the top 10 music markets are european countries" but the actual sales figures don't work like that.
It's more of a skewed bell curve. Like 85% (random number but probably near accurate) is the Top 5 of music sales, that being US, UK, South Korea, (and I THINK) Germany and Japan. Those make up the BULK of music revenue. So if Bey has solid stats in at least 2 - 3 of these (which she does), I would say she's global (which she is). Also, she tours all these places right? So obviously you have have to be globally a icon to sell out and pack venues in all these places. Simple as that.
Lastly, ringtone sales were huge when Check On It was out so that 16x platinum figure is actually a lot of revenue and a big deal. Don't try to downplay it just because ringtones aren't popular anymore. Ringtones were expensive as **** back in the day. Anywhere from 2.99 to 4.99.
Bey made COIN on those ringtones.
