Friday Update #2: Sources tell BoxOffice that Home and Get Hard are both off to strong starts.

Home will easily win the weekend with a total that could end up between $45 million-$50 million based on early Friday results. That would mark a huge win for DreamWorks following the disappointing performance of How to Train Your Dragon 2 and Penguins of Madagascar last year.

Get Hard is headed for a $35 million debut. Kevin Hart continues to be a solid earner, while Will Ferrell receives a much-needed boost.

I seriously can't understand what you're even saying. I'm assuming English isn't your first language? When did I ever say promotion was a bad thing? I never said the results, due to promotion (television/radio/Internet ads and appearances/interviews), were bad. To act as if they didn't help, is ludicrous. It's not a backhanded compliment.

Box Office: ‘Home’ Blasts Off for Massive $59 Million Weekend


The animated comedy “Home” is headed for a box office home run.

DreamWorks Animation’s family film defied expectations, to say the least, opening to $15.6 million on Friday, which set it on course for just under $59 million this weekend — one of the best debuts of all time for DreamWorks Animation. Meanwhile, Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart’s buddy R-rated comedy “Get Hard” is headed for $35.5 million.

This is a stellar start for “Home” as only 15% of K-12 schools are on spring break. Recent forecasts pegged “Home” in the $30 million to $35 million range.

Now, the musical comedy is more than likely to finish far above Fox’s “Rio 2,” which debuted to $39.3 million last April.

The pic, which cost $130 million to produce, also stands to outperform other recent DreamWorks releases handled by Fox, including “Penguins of Madagascar,” which grossed $35.4 million in its opening five-day weekend, “Mr. Peabody and Sherman,” which reeled in $32.2 million in its debut weekend, and “Turbo,” which made $31 million in five days.

“Home” follows a young girl – one of the only humans not to be relocated to by an alien race – and her newfound Martian friend. The movie, which is based on Adam Rex’s 2007 children’s book “The True Meaning of Smekday,” stars Jim Parsons, Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez and Steve Martin.

HOME is definitely Rihanna's movie and if you saw it you'd know it.

Her music is played throughout the movie from the soundtrack and her discography.

I just saw it today, first showing 3D at noon, only one family in the audience and 3/4 into the movie their daughter jumped on her seat and said "This Is My Favorite Movie EVER" I teared up a bit.

actually yes it is my second language but that is beside the point. you don't have to act dumb. you know what I'm saying and you can keep repeating 'bothered', 'dragged', whatever you guys have in your vocabulary but it doesn't take away from the fact that you are giving excuses as to why they are overperforming. stop giving excuses and look for ways to bring down the success of this movie just because Rihanna's the lead. they are doing numbers above what was predicted. be happy. you are implying all kinds of things with your " they did promote a hell lot.
