Why are some people talking like Chris was this global force before the incident? His album sales were nothing impressive either. Rihanna was already bigger than him.

Rihanna sold 2.5 million of GGGB with 8 singles, 4 of them being huge, the other 4 were still solid hits, a re-release, and over 1.5 years of non-stop promotion.
And most importantly, Chris was actually memorable due to his performances and dancing skills. People liked HIM. Nobody gave two ***** about Rihanna (and clearly still don't), all she has are her songs, which are written and manufactured for her. Once they go, she goes.
Even now, in North America, I wouldn't say Rihanna is any bigger of a star than Chris Brown. They're equal. But Chris has a more loyal fanbase and if he continues to make a comeback, he'll easily surpass her forgettable ass.

what kind of true tea? and let's not forget how he helped write one of her biggest hits
I'd say chris would've been huge, bigger than rihanna idk but I think he was a step ahead of rihanna before the whole incident took place so maybe

Chris Brown will never be anything compared to Usher, but they both >>>> Rihanna

Usher has been a non factor since Chris stepped on the scene.

Rihanna. She is making hit after hit.
She would stay the most liked, the most viewed and the most downloaded artist.

I'm aware of how local chris is and was but the poll is asking 'who'd be bigger' not 'who'd be bigger in just the US' so i'm going by worldwide.
And even in the US, like i said before he was never really 'slaying anything' like people are making it seem. None of his albums have even gone triple platinum in the US.....

Bold is a ****ing lie, and Justin and MJ had much bigger factors in their successes than exposure from being in previous groups, namely talent and charisma. Both of those groups had other members that flopped badly with their solo material, not to mention that Michael's commercial breakthrough came out years after The Jackson 5 was over.

Imagine how bigger she would've been if she didn't realease Rated R. But then Rated R brought her to another level.

Chris definitely wouldn't have seen Rihanna's peak but if he kept gaining momentum like he was he would have been a force. No one besides Justin Timberlake would have been able to take him down when he hit his peak.
Chris was dragged through the mud by the media and no up and comer has surpassed him. He would have ended up being more consistent in popularity than RIhanna(females have more competition) but never more popular than her.

Without re-releasing? What about 'Exclusive: The Forever Edition?' It included several new tracks and 'Forever' was the lead single from the re-release. You’re forgetting ‘Wall To Wall,’ his lead single (!,) and ‘Superhuman’ bombed. Every single released from ‘Good Girl Gone Bad’ went top 20 on the Hot 100.

It sold more than all of his albums combined worldwide have and produced more worldwide top 10 hits than all of Chris’ albums have.

After the incident, he flopped but then rose back up. This shows how much potential he has.
Rihanna is more consistent with her success though

Rihanna.
Your OP may be correct for the US, but Chris was a force nowhere else in the world. Rihanna had already managed a 5xPlatinum album in the UK by that stage.

Rihanna was bigger than Chris EVERYWHERE during the GGGB era.
