This is stupid. Where is it overrated ? That Rolling Stone writer may be biased (his review of Britney Jean is just ridiculous), but it doesn't mean that everything he said is wrong. That it be written by a professional writer or not, a review is always going to be subjective. Don't you think it's the same for your faves ? C'mon. I just don't want to waste my time and the energy to find receipts.
Outside of ATRL, the album has received generally positive reviews, mixed reviews as well, especially when the album came out, as Britney had such bad press at the time and nobody, literally nobody could have ever imagine that she would came with this kind of album, so different from what was out there on the radio at that time.
It then receives more acclaim years after its release because critics recognize that it was somewhat ahead of its time, when the electro-pop started to break out in America in 2008 with Lady Gaga (electro was already a thing in Europe). Of course it's not the most perfect pop album ever or whatever, it has flaws like any pop album (I mean there's a lot of more overrated albums here on ATRL and you know it !!) but overall no one can deny that for an underperforming album (because of the lack of promotion and Britney's catastrophic image in 2007) it did have a huge impact. No more no less.

Yeah most likely + it is extremely overrated. The key tracks on there are Gimme More, Heaven On Earth, Break The Ice, and WSIBS. The rest is disposable/forgettable IMO

Blackout has always been really, really bad. That was the point of gays ironically "liking" it. It was so extremely bad that it got a gay cult following.

It's all fallen away now though as the album is completely forgotten.

jesus. this brings me back to the BJ HDD thread.

Blackout used to be my fave album years ago but I haven't listened to it properly for a long time and have no desire to do so. Has some bops, but no substance.
