Not to be a gloomy Gus but her ratio of album sales to singles this era hasn't improved at all from the OOTB era. This is still a good accomplishment, it just doesn't get her out of "singles artist" territory quite yet.

You can stop. You're acting like there is some objective way of determining what's a singles artist. That ratio you're talking about is the basically same for most artists that sell a lot nowadays.

Name me any artists besides Rihanna or Lady GaGa that get the sheer amount of promotion Katy does. An artist of her status deserves extra sales scrutiny.

Promotion can only do so much. What's does more is a large fanbase, something that she lacked at the beginning of this ear. It has grown much more during this era, and now that it's actually somewhat large she hardly ever does promo.
Plus, even if other artists did more promo to the extend that Katy does it's very unlikely that it would push much album sales. Performances long after the album is out usually affect single sales much more than album sales.
Her sales are impressive any way you slice it, but 2M isn't that far off from what OOTB sold with less singles, less airplay, less time, less promo and no tour. She was 10 times bigger and more ubiquitous during the TD era than the OOTB era.
With 5 number ones, this should have been passed months ago. No shade, its the truth.
To an extent. Majority of her singles are fun party songs, nothing more nothing less. She has a few more serious songs like Firework and E.T. Fun party songs like the majority of her singles sell singles, not albums. Selling two million with majority party songs is a huge accomplishment, dropping the "singles" "albums" artist terms.
