She makes great music, and deserves to get all the fame and success she gets. The quality, the lyrics, the everything are good about all her songs/albums. So I'm fine with her beating Britney Spears.

Your opinion is subjective, but respected. Appreciate you mentioning two times that you're fine with her beating Britney Spears. My favorite line

WOW! Congrats to Tay! Selling 1 million in one week with two albums in a row is pretty impressive!

I don't understand the massive success of Justin Bieber. And I don't understand the massive success of Taylor Switt. IJS. That said, I'd be more than happy to see Taylor kick some pop-girl butt.
Out of the really young guns, Selena Gomez is the only one with a voice I find really appealing.

You said Her sales would be more impressive if the Lord was pop and we all know what you were trying there. Firstly, Her lead single is as pop as "Oops". Secondly, I guess Britney her record would be more impressive if Oops was heavy metal, considering how well pop sold back then. And thirdly, no other country artists are doing even half of what Taylor is selling.

+1 the only country artist who could consistently get huge debuts like this was Garth and he was just on a level above everybody else much like Tay is today.

Why are we still comparing Taylor Swift to Britney Spears? Their genres, target audiences and timelines are completely different.

Because Britney fans are still afraid Taylor may beat her record of 1,3 million sold first week

Right?
With the way some people on here (that aren't even Taylor stans) are talking you'd think their faves had come CLOSE to Brit's record (without the help of selling their album for 99 cents).
Britney's first week sales REMAIN impressive no matter WHEN the album was released, hence why it has remained a RECORD for 12 YEARS.
People remain doing the most.
EDIT: At me reading your post wrong.
I stand by what I said though.

True but the argument for Tay vs. Britney could go on for days
Pop vs. country
Napster/higher market vs. lower sales period
2000 vs. 2012
Controversial america sweetheart vs. america's sweetheart
back to back diamond albums vs. back to back 1M+ seller
but Britney's Oops... was released on 5/16/00 (Tuesday...6 days of sales)
Taylor Swift's Red...10/22/12 (Monday...full week/7 days of sales)
Congrats to both queens nonetheless.
Still holding off on my Red purchase until later on in the week/beginning of next week

Not everyone abandoning their pop criticisms of the album to degrade the achievement.

'Red' Alert: Taylor Swift To Sell 1 Million In First Week
Taylor Swift is poised to become the first female artist in the Nielsen SoundScan era (1991 to present) to have a pair of albums sell more than a million units in a single week.
According to industry sources, first-day sales for "Red" (Monday, Oct. 22) surpassed 500,000 units, including a record opening day sum at Target, as the mass-merchant scored exclusive rights to the album's deluxe version which includes three additional songs and three remixes. According to sources, Target shifted more than 160,000 units.
Though not confirmed, unit sales at the iTunes Music Store appears to have also been record-setting. The digital retailer reportedly accounted for nearly half of all units sold on "Red's" first day of availability. With that start, "Red" should break the first-week iTunes sales mark, recently set by Mumford & Sons "Babel," which moved roughly 390,000 units just three weeks ago, according to those in the know.
From This Week's Billboard: How Taylor Swift's 'Red' Is Getting A Boost From Branding Mega-Deals
Swifts last studio set, "Speak Now," debuted on the Billboard 200 chart dated Nov. 13, 2010, with 1.047 million units. Only one album since that date, Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" (1.108 million) has surpassed 1 million units in a single week. Gaga's final number was aided by Amazon MP3's sale pricing of the set at 99 cents for two days during release week.
If "Red" reaches 1 million units in the current SoundScan sales week (which concludes this Sunday, Oct. 28), it will be the 18th album in the Nielsen era to reach that magical seven-figure threshold.
Only three acts have ever surpassed 1 million units in a sales frame with a pair of albums: Backstreet Boys ("Millenium" in 1999 and "Black & Blue" in 2000), 'N Sync ("No Strings Attached" in 2000 and "Celebrity" in 2001) and Eminem ("The Marshall Mathers LP" in 2000 and "The Eminem Show" in 2002).
Final numbers will be announced next Tuesday evening, Oct. 30, although Billboard will update the sales progress of "Red" throughout the week.

So "Oops!" actually had 6 days of sales and not one whole week?
Impressive, tbh.

So far so good. We just have to wait and see how much the predictions are adjusted by the end of the week.
