I adore Brandy (and Monica) but they climaxed as major urban girls then were already peaking and had nowhere near the level of interest there was in Aaliyah, her film and modelling opportunities were very real

Like someone else said she died young and didn't flop beforehand so we all remember her for what she had achieving and her potential. Aaliyah's album (and single) was selling poorly right up until her death. If that's not enough to go by, then nothing is. She would've been worse off than Brandy come to think about it. At least Brandy had a huge peak.

None of her solo studio albums have outsold Britney, Christina, or P!NK highest studio albums.

She didn't die in the 90s she died in the 00's and last time I checked her last album during the early stages before her death did better than both Brandy and Monicas....and she wasn't too far behind them since her albums sales are above Monica and right on average with Brandy whole both were promoted more and Brandy was everywhere....most artist who gradually improve each era are the 1s who have a much longer and successful commercial peak.

Not really considering she had her biggest first week sales and it was already certified gold before her death, and she was just getting introduced to other markets.

And WNAR, while I love it and the video, wasn't really single material. After Try Again people obviously wanted something fun and upbeat. MTAW would've been a better first single honestly, it was even #1 here.

Aaliyah died before she even had her peak so that's not fair at all.

But this isn't a argument of her being bigger than them. It's so funny when the hive try to act like Beyoncé is the only artist that can do well with film and music, everything she did leading up to her death career wise were upward swings to global stardom, hit movies, hit album(before her death) and a fashion line all in the works, all you have to do is look at her schedule and see how BUSY she was(that was the cause of her death)

And Beys sales aren't even as good as DC so it doesn't matter if Aaliyah was able to outsell them she was making moves to become a bigger household name and the fact that she was able to establish her own lane musically and visually, and showed constant improvement, was a hood performer and had the respect of those that came before her I think it's safe to say she would be fine....and as superficial as the the industry has become she always had her looks and sex appeal if she needed those things to fall back on but I doubt she would have had to.

Aaliyah released WNAR as a lead single, which was riskier than anything her contemporaries were doing. Also, as a Beyoncé stan, you should know how it is when your fave puts out a polarizing lead single.

The Aaliyah album was her highest debuting album ( #2) and had sold 700k by the time she passed a month, a week and a day later. AANBAN and OIAM peaked at #18. Where was the POOR SELLING, sis??????

She was alreasy surpassing Brandy and had snatched the other one already so
