I'm sorry but this all just reeks of coordinated publicity on the part of AI. The perfectly shot "hidden" video that leaks to TMZ at the same time as the news... the 2-week buildup of leaked headlines about their simmering feud...

AI sees its grip on the TV singing competition market fading and are desperate to stop the ratings decline of the past several seasons. They know their show can no longer win on freshness nor talent, so they're going for calculated drama and a hyped-up rivalry.
