Of course she damaged her brand because she did exactly what SHE wanted to do. At the end of the day she's still extremely successful and she's in control of everything she does. I applaud her for that
Of course a gaga HATER would post this article

Whatever momentum she’s maintained from that point appears to have been the result of the halo effect from the earlier album.

This.
Everyone was hyped up and expecting her so called "album of the decade". That explains the huge front loaded sales but once the reality sank in that it's a mediocre album it plummeted down the charts and out of the BB 200, while her contemporaries were still selling and charting weekly.

Gaga problem was that she was amazing/different when you first saw her but now the novelty worn off. You expect to see crazy from her and she is now predictable.
This is not unusual. If you think about characters in movies as sequels go on people start to lose interest. Its not necessarily that the movie is bad but the novelty has worn off.

Of course it damaged her. She was successful with TF/TFM because she wasn't trying to be 'different'. And I know she still did the crazy outfits etc. but she alienated the GP imo.

Coming from a AZEALIA BANKS FAN!? let me know how Azealia's singles go! Or even better the mess that was #YungRupunxel! Did she even sell 100 copies? And it's even funnier because Gaga has 2.5 albums to her name that have sold millions, what does. azealia have?
Songs like TEOG and Y&I won't be forgotten. I still here them getting airplay on radio here. You tried though.
It's best for you to keep clinging to the semi-hit ( 1 hit wonder) 212

Not you coming for my fave just because I expressed my opinion. It's not like I tried to clock Gaga or anything.
It IS forgotten. The GP did not care for that kind of music. She did sell over a million with her hardcore fans and the 69 cent deal though! Alright, I suppose you hear those songs like once a month on the radio chile. But you won't hear no one bumping that **** proudly tbh.

No one on this site could ever...and I mean ever forget about gaga for the simple fact that every day someone makes an 'Art Pop' thread and a 'wow was BTW that bad' thread.
and no she didn't he brand is outcasts/alt pop starting from the fame monster onwards and she has stayed consistent with that.

Just because The Fame (Monster) were bigger than Born This Way doesn't mean that it's "forgotten"
She is Lady Gaga, she can take as many risks she wants, release any kind of music she wants, she's always going to be remembered.

There were a lot of sacrifices during the BTW era, and one of them wasn't her brand. Gaga's brand remained stable, if not stronger, given the success of her tour, perfume, social media ranking, and album. HDD has fallen into the trap that many atrl'ers fall into: Billboard Hot 100.
BBHot 100 is not the defining point to a brand. In fact, it can probably destroy a brand. It is why people like Gaga and Justin Bieber do not need back to back number ones because they constantly pull in more weight in other areas. The author is playing off the notion that Rihanna's hits make her a stronger brand, when it only makes her a a stronger hit machine. Yet Rihanna's star power does not match Gaga's when Gaga is actually doing something. An artist like Kesha relied on Hot 100 and had all the makings for a smash album, but lacks the power Gaga has. That was brand damaging.
There is more to being an artist than #1s. Gaga did not pull a Poker Face or Bad Romance at all with BTW, but the fact that she maintained her status and grew in touring and merchandise proves that she is just fine.
Right now things are dormat and people have forgotten what a juggernaut Gaga actually is. Let us not forget how she demolished with 18 dates versus the 90 something the others had to do just to match

Is this thread supposed to undermine the cultural impact that she has made? Surely that along will carry her into a successful upcoming era as long as the music is more appealing.
We can't say that Gaga won't come back big until she actually comes back. Only then will the truth be revealed.

There's little to no recurrent airplay for any of the singles. And nothing memorable came from it. No good videos, no good performances, nothing.
It wouldn't surprise me if people think Gaga's last song was Alejandro or Telephone or something.

I agree with every word.
I've even heard someone mention that they remember Gaga and Poker Face so I don't even think those last 2 are on anyone's mind either. Mostly her debut era.

Exactly. It has NOTHING to do with the discussion at hand. Guess he had to come for my fave since he can't find a valid argument.

but i see a mistake in the article tho, Rihanna doesn't take breaks, nobody talks about P!nk when she's on a break , and Gaga was pretty relevant throughout 2012
