No, but really. Born This Way wasn't a bad era, but the trajectory leading down from TFM to BTW was more revealing, because the diminishing returns showed that her fanbase were the main ones checking for her, with some additional support from the general population.
However, not all fans are equally loyal, so the diminishing returns from Born This Way to ARTPOP showed that a good number of people happened to jump ship for various reasons. Whether it was that the music didn't appeal to them anymore, or she just wasn't as successful anymore, or even something else entirely, is determined on an individual basis. Applause being a moderate success shows that not everyone in the general public utterly despises her, like many here seem to think.
So true. And actually, DWUW and Applause were the first times in a really long time where we saw people from the general public enjoying Gaga. People making Applause parodies, DWUW being praised by just about everyone. It just shows that it's all about the music and not the musician themselves. All it takes is a good song that people like and everyone will love you again. It's really all up to Gaga whether or not she wants to continue becoming more abstract or to streamline her ideas and make her music more relatable. We know she can succeed either way, but the latter will always bring more success than the former.

Even if, say, Gaga never recovers and just has 500k-2 million albums for the rest of her career.. how does that undo her previous successes? The Fame is one of the highest selling albums of all time. Or even Born This Way? Likewise, if Adele doesn't match the same sales as 21, I am sure people here will join the hate bandwagon and claim she had "no impact." Sales are sales are facts which are always remembered and documented. Is Cyndi Lauper less an icon because she never surpassed her first hit? Of course not!
How does faltering make you have "less impact" when no one can even match you since? Clearly you aren't forgotten. This website and their measure of impact and only looking at what is current and ignoring the past.
They did it with Britney. They did it with Michael. They did it Madonna.
You have to remember that the average person doesn't care enough about popstars to hate them. The "GP" doesn't hate Gaga. Or even dislike her. They like what they like and tune out the rest. Even Chris Brown had hits after his hits.
However, the problem lies in the media telling people what to like. They push whatever story is going to sell best - whether that be 'superstar on the rise' or 'fading star plummets' - and right now, the latter is a more entertaining angle. Fortunately, the cycle continues once 'Gaga is a flop' gets stale and 'Gaga's back!' gets traction.
When things turn is anyone's guess, but if she wants to to take things into her own hands then she's going to need to play the game. Look good, be less abrasive, deliver what people want to hear and partner up with currently popular brands. It's how Madonna has remained relevant.

Just like how Beyonce was supposedly over, and now look at her.
WaiT! I just realized something! The male voice in "Cake Like Lady Gaga" was revealed to be Gaga herself after someone took the sound byte and upped the pitch or did some sound engineering magic **** with it. If someone takes the electronic male voice from "We-R-Superstars" and does the same thing, would we find out who it is?

Exactly. It only takes one album to change things around. For better or worse.
Beyonce is a good example of how to focus on building your brand profile, and THEN deliver the product once demand has returned.
That's what Gaga should be aiming for. The music isn't really an issue - people buy utter crap, and even the worst AP tracks are 'fine' - so it's a question of getting it sold to them, and that will come down to making her brand one that radio/media/people want to buy from again.
Beyonce had the Superbowl, a Pepsi deal, H&M summer campaign, Blue Ivy, teaser tracks, touring, surprise release etc. What's Gaga's equivalent?

But you know what the scary thing is? I don't think she's ever going to change. I honestly cannot see her "playing the game" because she did that in the beginning and it did nothing but make her sad. She wants success, she doesn't like people bashing her, but she doesn't want to change what she thinks she is, and that kind of sucks for us? I mean, I don't give a **** about sales, but damn I would like to see her at least chart every now and then, and that's not gonna happen with songs like GUY.
Go on her Instagram and Facebook. Her most liked posts are of her being "conventionally pretty". People want that for her. People would be all over her if she just played the game for an era.
If she wants to have a career, she will play the game. If not- then she better prepare to fall in to oblivion. We already saw what happens when the GP is not here for you- you open with 258k and your album underperforms. If Gaga thinks that her monsters can keep her songs and albums selling then.....

Oh my, never thought we'd agree on something.
That's what I keep on saying to the peeps thinking that because some singers managed to bounce back that Gaga will miraculously do it too, but that's not how it works.
If she doesn't put her pretentiousness aside and play the game it won't happen !

Omg
That would be so cool if it's her though I think it's too early for a new album/single. She should release 'Cheek to Cheek' and an EP in the second half of 2014.
