The things people recall about old artists are ALWAYS first attached to an iconic hit.
MJ is first remembered for his songs like Thriller and its singles, THEN his dance talent and weird child rape.
Whitney is remembered for her classics and THEN her talent and THEN her crack habits and THEN her albums/acclaim (note how literally nobody ever thinks about how many awards she has or about any of her albums at all).
Every legend is first recalled for their hits. That's how it'll always be.
