I would also like to add that I think ATRL is actually intolerant towards the heterosexual community.
|
There's no such thing as a "heterosexual community." It's called " all of society," "mainstream media," "the dominant culture," etc.

but ATRL has just become so gay. In order to get a hit thread that is popular nowadays includes either trolling or making a thread saying “Daddy [insert celebrity here] running with a bulge”, it’s not really making things accepting all around.
|
The discomfort you feel regarding these "gay" threads / titles is similar to the discomfort women feel when they see headlines and magazine covers that objectify them, focus on their bodies rather than their accomplishments or intelligence, or otherwise trivialize their lives. It's similar to the discomfort gays feel when they peruse any sort of mainstream media, constantly confronting positive images of heterosexuality that put a stamp of approval on straightness while ignoring gay people (and therefore delegitimizing our own relationships).
And Heaven forbid ATRL be "so gay" when the rest of the world is "so straight."

They are also known to consider anybody and everyone as gay or secretly gay just out of habit of what ATRL has become. If you are in fact heterosexual you kind of get made fun of and accused of being in the closet
|
This kind of behavior is rather inappropriate and should be stopped.

I honestly didn't mean for it to go this far, but hey I did say what I said.
I guess I should have clarified, downsides of typing comments when extremely tired, I was speaking from more of like an ATRL forum point of view and not society. Yes, there is no such thing as a heterosexual community as it is seen as the norm and what majority are. I was just speaking form that ATRL is more of a homosexual community and it should be more accepting for everyone especially those who are heterosexual. Let's just nix the community title as it is the wrong term.
Honestly I wouldn't like it if I saw titles saying "Mommy [insert celebrity here] looking hott in a revealing bikini" and would probably change the title and/or close it if things were to go too far. I'm not opposed to doing that for I agree that it is the same. I do consider myself a feminist as well for I'm all for being equal between men and women. Less objectification and more focus on what they are great at. I honestly think women are much stronger and smarter than men.
I'm not talking about nixing the freedom and denying the power that a lot of gay people feel here to express themselves. I'm just wanting this forum to be accepting for everyone; all of the LGBTQ and the straights. At the moment it just seems more forward facing on the gays and I don't think that's the best for our forum to grow to what it could be. We are growing in one direction (pun there?) when we could be growing in multiple directions, reaching a wider and a much broader audience then just one set of orientation. Kind of see what I'm saying? Does it make sense? I just want this forum to be equal for all and not for one orientation to feel more powerful than the other or the other to feel weakened. Accepting and equal for everyone to be able to contribute to discussions, love the music, and be one with another.

Your post was accurate except this part I don't understand.
What does the media trivializing women and gay people feeling discomfort over straight representation, have to do with Matty's point?
The way I read it, Matty was referring to the overly graphic place ATRL has become. And I agree with him on that. Every single thread has something along the lines of "pound me daddy" when the topic of the thread is completely innocent or just a random shirtless picture. It's become extremely disruptive and quite frankly, it puts the gay community in a really bad light.
I can totally understand why a straight man browsing this forum would feel very uncomfortable with the amount of explicit and graphic gay material on here. It's even uncomfortable for gay people to peruse.

Why do sexual innuendos or even blunt sexual comments make you uncomfortable, when most of the time its an exaggerated way?

It's mostly that it's gotten out of hand lately. The number of threads I walked into only for it to escalate is a bit much. Well that and it's really not the place for it as there are those who want to make a more productive contribution to the thread. 'Sides, comments like that are useless since the users can always browse the Internet to quench their thirst and not clog the thread up with the sexually charged posts.

Mess, I agree!
Some of the comments in those shirtless celeb threads are really disturbing

I never said it didn't make me uncomfortable, please tell me where I said was uncomfortable using that exact word because I do not recall using it, as I know it's exaggerated. The point I'm trying to get across its those kinds of comments that are not need for this music/entertainment centered forum. It doesn't help with the point I'm trying to make about making the forum more accepting towards everyone.

Innuendos aren't the problem, i'm talking about the graphic/explicit posts.
Who wants to enter a perfectly reasonable thread and then see 50 posts talking about how they want to be humiliated and destroyed in graphic detail. It's honestly just disturbing.
Maybe what i'm saying is controversial but as a member of the LGBT community, it honestly makes me feel embarrassed when I see all these "pound me daddy" posts.
Like, who can browse ATRL in public anymore?
It's especially worse for us as mods, because it's literally our job to open up the worst posts on ATRL and warn them. So we pretty much see the most extreme posts day in and day out.

Well I mean I'm pretty sure most people that post that are more or less doing it for the sheer audacity of it to be humorous and get a chuckle because of how absurd it sounds.

Which is even more annoying tbh, they're just doing it for quotes/kiis. It's embarrassing.

We're already starting to warn when people purposely make a title to get members in there to do that exact reason. But really, if you want to be overly graphic, even exaggerated vulgar, there are other forums on the internet to use to, as you said, 'quench their thirst'. I'm all find with comments like "he's so hot/sexy" "my bae looks delicious", it's just those things that Cupid mention about pounding, humiliate, destroy me comments that just are not needed whatsoever on this forum. It makes it less accepting for people since they can start to think that is the norm way to go about things on here.

I'm actually starting to wonder if shirtless threads should be done away with. All they are is just a thirst trap for explicit posts and it's getting silly that they try to complain about it.
