I've even had two friends that don't even care about music in that way ask me if I read her article.

Her PR team is literally the best

Yes the money is in the song-writing, hence why Taylor is always making more money per album than the likes of Rihanna, Miley etc. Not only does she sell more albums, thus getting more cash per album release, but Tay gets paid mechanical royalties for every track on the album that she has written as she has writing credits on every single track. Every Taylor CD that is made (even if iit goes unsold) gives her cash for every track she has written on it. As Taylor has written every track on all her albums AND her albums have a lot of songs for an album, she gets lots of mechanical royalties.
Taylor already has published about 90 tracks, so she gets mechanical royalties for every single one as she has writing credits on all of them bar a couple of cover-versions. Also whenever a Taylor track is played on radio/TV she gets performance royalties as the song-writer.

In the run up to Speak Now's arrival, the fact that Swift wrote the songs by herself was the impression that she was moving into a more adult phase of her career, but that credit turns into real money when units start shifting. With the fourteen songs on the album credited solely to Swift, and given standard mechanical royalties for songwriters (the amount a songwriter gets paid every time his or her song is sold) at 9.1¢ per song, first week sales of Speak Now dropped $1,333,878 into the star's piggy bank.
Add to that the 2.5 million digital tracks sold to date, and we're talking more than a million and a half dollars to be split up as Swift and her attendants see fit.
For Swift, this is great news. For the rest of the songwriters-for-hire in the industry, you have to imagine the news stings a little. All other things being equal, anyone else hitching a ride on this star — say Taylor owed you a favor and gave your cousin a single songwriting credit on Speak Now — would bank $95,000 based solely on album sales in that first week. And that's without even starting to count public performance, YouTube and Vevo plays, or radio spins.

Well it's not surprising, they completely cleaned up her image for that Era. I mean just look at the original Tim McGraw video

Not only is she really rich right now but she'll never not be a millionaire anymore. Even when she's 80 and not doing anything anymore (assuming she won't) her songs and all her other projects will still pay her bills easily (and more). Same thing even when she dies; her grandchildren are safe financially.

Sometimes I think about how she buys 2000$ dresses and probably doesn't even notice the difference in her bank account.
Even her 2 17M+ house/apartment didn't even change a thing
She needs to give me a little of her fortune

It could go different ways. Maybe everyone expects Her to be bad, but they come away pleasantly surprised—like with this article that people found to be better than they expected it to be based on Her name alone. Maybe the movie will be outstanding and critics will still say She's the worst part because of the general attitude towards Her acting. Maybe the movie will be such a trainwreck that Her performance becomes the highlight of the film. Or maybe the movie is such a trainwreck that Her ****** performance gets overlooked because of bigger **** ups. Anything could happen.

She seems to be taking it seriously, so we can only hope she's amazing. People will expect the worst from her so if she does well enough that people aren't horrified she should be fine.

Wow! I didn't know that. I always thought the artist got paid in radio airplay. But, I do remember Dolly Parton (songwriter) saying she still receives residual checks from Whitney Houston's "I will always love you". It's so interesting how the music industry works.. Artists get paid anywhere from 15%-22% on albums at wholesale. Single downloads they see less than a dime. Vevo certified videos over 100mil views, they get paid. I read Psy made several million from "Gangnam Style" youtube views. But again, was the it the artist, songwriter, producer or record label that got paid? Now I see why Taylor who has released 4 albums is worth more than Rihanna who 've released 7 albums. Paying cash for a $17.5 mansion in RI.
No wonder touring is the most lucrative for musicians. They always said Beyoncé Tour so much to pay the bills/hush hush lawsuits.. Allegedly.

So not only does Songwriting give you more credibility in the industry, but it also gets you more $$$. Someone should bump the "Songwriting "Overrated"?" thread

wasn't that "confirmed" (well not confirmed but speculated, I guess) by some people working in the industry? Or was that just trolling nobody's?

I think speculated by some blog or someone, but it make sense. You'd figure that she/her label would want to talk about the single/album while promoting The Giver. The 11th would make most sense since The Giver comes out that friday and that would give her the greatest boost, but I could see the 4th because LP5 is coming out Oct. 13 (her earliest release date) and it would be out for almost two weeks before The Giver premieres, so it wouldn't overshadow it.

Imagine if she has a dual Lead Single/Giver single If it's the first song on the credits she'd be eligible for An Oscar/Grammy for best song for Motion Picture, not to mention she'd get promotion for the song every time someone goes to see the movie. (That is, if the movie doesn't flop horribly )
