Even though Harry is sexier/ better looking than Ed, I don't think people in America would give a hoot if he wrote a song about his previous flings. But they do care if it's about Taylor or some other American starlet.

Pretty awesome how the majority of response from twitter towards Taylor's WSJ Article are very positive; from grown men and women to music creators and writers to everyone else.
of course those who are inable to be earnest and sincere and view the world thru perpetual cynicism and snark areunable to read it any other way than "Taylor wrote it, lets mock it to prove how hip we are"

There are always going to be those artists who break through on an emotional level and end up in people's lives forever. The way I see it, fans view music the way they view their relationships. Some music is just for fun, a passing fling (the ones they dance to at clubs and parties for a month while the song is a huge radio hit, that they will soon forget they ever danced to). Some songs and albums represent seasons of our lives, like relationships that we hold dear in our memories but had their time and place in the past.

Val, even though I agree with many of your posts, but I have to agree with TheCheetahwings this time.
These days, I've compared Taylor and Ed's albums on a daily basis. Taylor's music is still on a higher level, even though, ed's X is much much much better than before and others.
I think it's the power of the music, which gives you goosebumps? How many?
Don't does though.

What did I say about Lord being the smartest and most articulate out of Her contemporaries?

Taylor's words become stronger and stronger, I forgot in which recent interview, she made me feel the strongest description about songwriting, ended like "feel not alone" or something like that (I remember, I posted here with my escalated confidence regarding LP5 right away). All these recent statements by Taylor reflect her growth as a songwriter. This WSJ article made me even more confident about LP5. About those haters, just ignore them, they are nobody, right?

Another theme I see fading into the gray is genre distinction. These days, nothing great you hear on the radio seems to come from just one musical influence. The wild, unpredictable fun in making music today is that anything goes. Pop sounds like hip hop; country sounds like rock; rock sounds like soul; and folk sounds like country—and to me, that's incredible progress. I want to make music that reflects all of my influences, and I think that in the coming decades the idea of genres will become less of a career-defining path and more of an organizational tool.

The whole (kind of pointless and uninsightful?) article just being an excuse to provide Her receipts and shade everyone else.

Based on my recent non-stop album playing experience, I have a feeling, if some songs can cause your physical reactions...I don't mean sexually , those songs can NOT be bad. For me, All Too Well, Sad Beautiful Tragic...Don't...Glory and Gore...are among them.
Edit: Wait, I was wrong, making you feel sleepy is also physical reaction, right? If that kind of reaction, throw the album away. Luckily I don't have to YET.

What if it's a lullaby
IMO, albums can be relaxing as well. Though not necessary sleep-inducing.

I think you knew my point.
Edit: Ronan gave me another kind of physical reaction, I had literally cried for like 2 weeks (not non-stop!) until I had to stop listening to it.

Reading through the comments on the WSJ website right now and:
Quote:
I think reality TV singers have been killing real music for 10 years now, they are all corporate made mediocre talent karaoke singers being pushed on us as real talent when all they can do is sing other people's songs --> Like a Carrie Underwood. --> Carrie has a very nice voice but all she does is sing other peoples songs as she has very little real talent for music as she does not write any of her own songs --> How did we get to a singer has to have perfect pitch now? --> lol --> Bob Dylan would never make it in music now and he is one of the all time great's --> Great music artist's write there own songs and touch our hearts with there own songs --> Beatles, Dylan, Taylor Swift just to name a few of the great ones!

Pulling in new fans with Her article

Wow, I'm impressed as well. You obviously put a lot of thought and love into this piece! I'm a music lover who always appreciates the insider perspective. I'm also tuned into several artists the way your folks are tuned into the Beach Boys and Carly Simon, so I relate to what you're saying there. Your essay makes it all the more clear why it's important to support bands by buying their albums and following and interacting with them on social channels. I'm a bit ashamed to admit that I wasn't expecting much when I followed the link to your article. But now that you've surprised me here, I'm going to check out your music as well! Maybe surprises are waiting for me there as well! Thanks for sharing!
