I know this might be a stretch, but had BMR sent WANEGBT to iTunes at midnight instead of 8pm, she probably could have broken the record. She was only 13-14K away

Yep, it was something like Enrique Iglesias' "Finally Found You", it was realesed to iTunes 2 weeks after radio adds date

But still It was 2009, the digital sales were just starting to explode

"Right Round" was released digitally two or three weeks after it was sent to radio.

It went for adds in January and hit iTunes in February.

It's somewhat a different game in 2013. The radio first - download second stopped working in late-2010, IMO.

Was getting ready to post something like this.

Enrique, The Wanted, and Nelly tried it most recently, and their sales (sans Enrique, to an extent) were pretty dismal. FFY debuted in the top ten on HDS, but still flopped hard afterwards. I think The Wanted even performed at the AMAs AND discounted it to 69 cents, and it still didn't go top 20.

With increased pirating and the availability of YouTube/Spotify, people aren't going to "wait" to download songs anymore.
