The Blacker The Berry is not an easy listen true, but it's just perfect.
Never managed to get into Father John
Brandom Flowers... hmm I tried a few times, didn't work. The Small Town Boy is sacred for me, don't like how he integrated it into I Can Change, but I'm listening to the other tracks you posted there as I type, maybe something will hit.

24 is middling. It's somewhere in the middle between Earth and Heaven
I agree, BBHMM is great. Who taught me that BBHMM is great. Holocene taught me. Possibly in my top 5 Rih songs. 45S is better though and this will stay the truth.
That Art Angles cover

I like Coldplay's first single at first but like after a couple of days I got over it. I still use it sometimes. Some folks who I will not mention go a bit too hard on it.
I'm a Rih stan and you're making me feel bad for putting her latest club anthem low
But no seriously it's pretty great. It took me a while to fully apprecriate it.
YG: Actually it's pretty good for a throwback feeling.
Poot For The Summer was great for the 1/4 of summer left. I think it's my favorite lead single from her tbh.
Maybe

Legend is awesome
Thank you for backing me up on Coldplay. I love the song, certain people need to spot being so cold take off the hater glasses
It took me awhile to come around on Rih's BBHMM especially since I loved 45S so much and it was a big departure from that sound. You're still a pretty good Rih stan though, Anti will top your best of in 2020 right?
I think Poot For the Summer is the only Demi lead I like, what a great song though.
I think I may have caught an edit on YG there but I think you might like this next update.

Flawless set, I didn't like BBHMM when it was released as I do now. Something happened in the summer tho and I played it almost daily, so good. That outro is the best thing in her discography The cover is indeed her best one.
LEGEND Love from the first listen.
Cool For The Summer is really great. That breakdown goes so hard. I also love AOALT, reminds me a lot of Daft Punk.
AMAZING set
|
Right? It's an old school song with that classic California G-Funk. It also should have smashed hard.
Glad you liked it. Thanks for listening.
Rih looks on the BBHMM cover. and the chorus of the song. The layered "Bitch Better Have My BITCH better have mys" are awesome She made me a full stan this era.

Really? Te Demi song hooked me big time. It's perfection, totally 80s inspired, but a breath of fresh air. I think the fact that it's demi is a turn off though It was for me first anyway.
Glad you liked Twist My Fingaz. Everything YG does is

Bad Blood was so annoying and K-Dot and his “obnoxious” ad libs are the only saving grace about the song and the video is epic. I didn’t how the song was written and it doesn’t matter what the person is, it terribly done. I heard of Throw So Mo on some You-tuber’s Worst of and yeah, it’s not enjoyable for me.
36-32: Only One has too much 808s and I’m not a fan of Jumpman aka Super Mario (in case you are confused, I love Mario not the song. Jumpman was Mario used to be called)
31-27: The vocals on Holding On are great and the song itself is just some great dance fun. You described High by the Beach so well and I love the song.
26-21: 10 Bands is one of my favorite songs from the mixtape. Like the fun fact. Your one K-Pop song is not bad and good write-up on it. Yeah, we fill our quota of different languages. Lock & Load is on fire! GTA’s cool.
20-16: Love Yelawolf and his Southern style of mixing Hip-Hop and Country and it ain’t craptry. I do like the all-Country ballad Devil in my Veins. The Blacker The Berry is King Kendrick going mad and props for him for being who he is from the inside and esp. the outside. I Bet is so good and it’s one of my top favorites of the year. Gotta listen to this Father John Misty song. Hope it can match to the good ole USA classic Born in the US of A! Kanye as president is so laughable. I hope he knows the three branches. I don’t want him to be embarrassed when he goes on to some political entertainer’s talk show. Though, I low-key prefer to have him as president than Donald Trump or basically any candidate trying to run for 2016.
Your worst link goes to the album: 25-21. Oh, well. Loving the Bitch Ass Best of so far. Keep it up!
|
Thanks Flame! I am very sorry that I failed with that Worst Link. I guess you could say it is the worst link since it doesn't do it's job It's very meta.
You do need to hear Amethyst, it's definitely the best musical Amethyst there is It's also free, and Worth It is... worth it Sounds like you got a pretty good worst of going through my list though
I am very happy you got the Mario Jumpman connection. I don't think anybody ever does. I am very happy you liked the Yelawolf song think we should get a really start volunteering for #KanyeSwift2016 especially since I agree with you about Ye being a better candidate than everyone running

15. Jazmine Sullivan - Reality Show
| Reality Show is a classically inspired R&B album, which was a very refreshing thing this last year. The fact that the album was a classically inspired R&B album no doubt helped the album stick out in a year when it seemed everyone started to hop on the PBR&B bandwagon, but it would have stuck out as a quality album in just about any recent year. I call it a classically inspired album, because the album, while referencing some classic R&B albums in sound, is pretty much a modern album. Jazmine makes as many references to pop culture as some rap album, referencing Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar, lyrically and musically referencing everyone from After 7's Ready Or Not on Let It Burn, to Darkside's Paper Trails on Stupid Girl, and it's interesting that she does make all these references throughout the album, it's interesting commentary that we all are kind of influenced by our past, but still shaped by the present. It's a really cool album that fits right into the present even if if it's mostly influenced by the past.
I think the album cover sums up the album the best. It's comfortable looking, lived in, and while the title references the modern concept of the Reality Show, it wouldn't be possible without the old-fashioned tv on the cover.

14. Nothing But Thieves - Nothing But Thieves
| This was definitely my favorite debut rock album of the year, and possibly of the decade. The Thieves really stole my heart with this one and I really haven't been this crazy about a mainstream rock group since.... I can't remember, it's been awhile. These guys are often related to Muse, but I don't quite see that. They go for the musical bombast occasionally, and the frontman does often go for those dramatic high notes. Muse is more often concerned with sci-fi subjects and paranoia, Starlight and MK Ultra.
The Thieves are definitely earth bound and almost cover as much gloomy introspective territory as Drake. If I were to go the reductive route and compare them with a similar sounding British band, I would say they tap in to the same vein as The Bends era Radiohead (The NBT frontman's ghostly wail is definitely from the same line as Thom Yorke's) and Parachutes/A Rush Of Blood to The Head era Coldplay (sorry prezli), but the Thieves definitely have a unique character already.
The Thieves rock harder than Radiohead and Coldplay ever have: songs like Trip Switch ride an outright groove and even the gloomier more meditative tracks can gradually boil over and explode like If I Get High. I had to import this one since I loved their EP so much and the US release date was delayed until sometime in 2016; they also were one of the signs, that for me at least, suggested rock might be making some type of creative comeback which is very exciting, and something I will be looking forward to in 2016.

13. Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp A Buttefly
| I have conflicted feelings about this record and about Kendrick in general. On the one hand, he is obviously one of the best technical rappers out there (if not the best), I love his ambition and how he is pushing everyone to put out their best work to be able to compete with him; however, at the same time, I think that he just goes too far sometime, too overly technical to the point that his music, while impressive, just stops being enjoyable and relatable.
One of the things I most often read about To Pimp A Butterfly, was breathless praise about how he addressed race relations on the album, which is something that is unfortunately still a very serious issue in the country in 2015 and 2016. He tackles the various issues very well, but at some point, the album just wears on me. "Yes Kendrick, good point Kendrick, I agree with you Kendrick. Good observation Kendrick. Interesting sample Kendrick" I find myself thinking as I listen to the album. It's a very powerful album in small doses, but just gets too overly technical and redundant in one listen. That's not to say he needs a couple EDM tracks worked into the track list or a pop feature, there's just a point that it feels more like sitting through a college lecture than a relatable album. I think back to my favorite album of 2012, the criminally slept on R.A.P. Music by Killer Mike, and how he effectively and brutally dismantles the Regan administration in 4 minutes and it just feels more passionate. Then I think back to Good Kid Mad City and how even though the album doesn't tackle race as an issue as much as To Pimp A Butterfly, but it often is a more powerful album, as GKMC tells its story, you can relate to Kendrick on a personal level as he explores his Compton: he sneaks out at night, there's violence, his domestic situation isn't the best, his dad wants his car back. You really get a feel for life in that album, and I just found GK more effective in relating to Kendrick and the youth of Compton, or any community really.
I do like To Pimp A Butterfly, especially in smaller doses, it just wasn't my favorite album. I also still think that i, is the best song on the album. On that one, Kendrick's fired up, it's a celebratory track, it's a conflicted track. Kendrick states that he loves himself, but makes sure you know of the constant struggle happening around him and within him that is a constant threat to that, and as I hear him run through his thoughts and feelings, I feel for him and hear him when he talks about himself and his surroundings on i, on a more personal level than I do on the majority of the album.

12. Miguel - Wildheart
| I love the earthy, hazy atmosphere of this whole album. Just the music itself, feels downright sexy and sweaty at times; I mean, NWA, coffee, FLESH, that steamy atmosphere runs through the whole course of whole album really. It can be almost too carnal at times, but it's all part of the journey of the album; but, there are some romantic songs filled with wanderlust and a thirst for travel like leaves and waves that make this less an album less about sex and more about desire and adventure.
Wildheart was one of the most consistent listens of the year for me, and one of the most enjoyable. That being said, no album frustrated me as much as this album's randomly capitalized and non-capitalized song titles. |
__________________________________________________ _______
11. Neon Indian - Vega Intl. Night School
| This whole album just seems to get by on a cool aquatic neon pulse and often feels like some alien version of pop music than anything terrestrially based. You can't even really hear the lyrics a lot of the time, and yet, the gooey amorphous pop of this album just sticks with you like some delicious gummy candy that gets stuck in your teeth. The album is one of the most unique and enjoyable pop albums of the year though. |
__________________________________________________ _______
Alright, I am finally at my top 10 albums and singles. I'm not quite sure how I'll reveal them right now, but I think tomorrow I might acknowledge some of my favorite mixtapes and EPs of the year and then reveal my top 10 songs.
For now though, here are some facts about my top 10 songs for fun.
3 songs in the top 10 are by artists that haven't charted a song yet on my song list.
2 songs are by artists that have had at least 2 songs chart.
1 song is by an artist that hasn't released their debut album yet in the US.
Drake is in the top 10, but will he be number 1? An artist that blocked him on the Hot 100 is here.
My most played song is in the top 10

I just touched up on Jazmine's album. One of my favorite R&B albums of 2015 definitely.
Nothing but Thieves I still got to get up on that. I'm the worst when it comes to procrastination , but I like the songs though.
TPAB charted . What a potential classic it is.
Rooting for Kendrick's grammy wins
Wildheart, another excellent R&B album. We got different highlights but they're all dope either way
