I chose Hooverphonics Vinegar & Salt, I chose the Orchestral version from their album 'In Orchrestra' instead of the Original from 'The Magnificent Tree'
Why? because despite loving the original. The song itself is one of my favorites because this song shows that you don't need much lyrics in order to become an emotional and personal song, as proven by the accompaniment of the strings which help emphasize the songs message and give a more personal and broken feeling to it.
This song conveys the feeling of hurt, pain and vulnerability. This song shows the struggle of a relationship based upon lies and how it spirals out of control but no matter what, she can't bring herself to leave. The Strings parallel this story also which just make this song so great to me.
I just love how the beginning of the song. The chords sound, in a way, broken, discorded and as the song progresses it starts whirling out on control. Getting bigger and bigger till we just reach the climax(the bridge/2:24) as if she comes to a realization that she everything is a lie, and till 2:50 we're just haunted by Noémie vocals, accompanied by a Piano and Violin, which in my opinion gives the song a sense of loneliness and vulnerability of her in a crumbling relationship, but can't come to part with you because she can't help but love you. But she smiles anyway, smiles for you, smiles for the pain, the hurt . But on the inside she's breaking apart. And everything just breaks apart.(final bit/2:50)
I am the vinegar and salt
And you are the oil that dissolves my frustrations
Limitations
But sometimes...
I don't dare to ask why
