Anyway, I am kind of seething a bit on the inside that Mario Kart 64 made it to top 32 while the ICONIC SA2, Suikoden II, Tales Of Vesperia, Sunshine, Chrono Cross, and Persona 4 didn't.
It's fun to play, but it has no actual storyline. That is why I didn't include Mario Karts. You ATRLers got some FLOP taste.
I just think it shouldn't be included as a ''best game'' because it doesn't have a storyline at all, just races and a few mini-games, so it's more of a side game. And believe me I don't hate the game either, I spent years on the series and was even involved in the MKW communtiy for like three years.
Some games are never meant to be taken seriously from a story point of view. And yet their multiplayer still garners tons of fan. Case in point: Call of Duty and Halo.
They don't need to be taken seriously per se. As I said I say it shouldn't be included because it is more of a side-game (All of the characters are taken from the actual Mario games). You do not need to bring up Call of Duty nor Halo because Mario Kart gets lots of fans just as those games do, but the difference is Mario Kart is MEANT to be a side game using characters from core games, the other two are not I don't think? I'm a huge fan of Mario Kart too and considered voting for Double Dash, but I backed out since I felt like the spot could have better options that are meant to be core games.
I don't think you realize that I'm trying to say there could have been better options solely because Mario Kart is more of a side game, not that it's a bad game.
I totally get it. I should have said it differently; Mario Kart in general though has always been about the quality of its local/online mulitplayer (especially with the N64 version) and while it's objectively not the best out there... But in this rate, it's been submitted by users who think highly of it for that reason.
Well what other reason is there to vote for it? jk.
It's definitely more approachable to all ages than a super long RPG like Persona though for example. I wouldn't say I'm surprised that it was voted for so much (though I expected wii or DD to be most voted) but even though I love it and have probably spent hours accumulating to like a year on the series, I feel like games that have to reel you in rather than have you a fan right off the bat + are core games deserve spots more just for that reason.
I've only seen one letdown and that was Super Mario Bros. 3. I mean, if we wanna talk about a staple, that is one of the best Super Mario games in existence. Top 5 definite for Nintendo games. But, I understand why it didn't make it all the way, but I'm shocked to see it go...
