There will be a new number one in the next chart, but it will be bundled with the chart from the week after, so I'll go ahead and announce it now. (I mean, I'm hella behind at this point anyway
)
Congrats to Twenty One Pilots, for reaching the top with their first charting entry "Holding On To You." They join Emilie Autumn, Alt-J, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Pierce The Veil, and Zedd in having pulled this feat as lead artists this year. (Wanz, Kellin Quinn, Florence Welch, and Foxes have as well, but as featured vocalists.)
Other chart notes for the chart forthcoming:
Due to the release of Yellowcard's 10-year anniversary acoustic edition of Ocean Avenue, the title track makes its bow on the chart with a rare top ten debut at number 7. If my chart had existed during the peak of the song's popularity, it would have assuredly gone number one. Will "Ocean Avenue" be able to make the climb as a reissue? Perhaps. It is the group's third top ten, following "Sing For Me" (#4) and "Here I Am Alive" with Tay Jardine from We Are The In Crowd (#2).
American pop singer Lady Gaga earns her 13th top ten as "Applause" scrapes the bottom end at #9. This joins her other Hot 100 top tens in addition to her duet with Tony Bennett, "The Lady Is A Tramp" (#3).
For Future Reference:
Tegan and Sara's "Closer" is vying to re-enter the chart almost one year after it's debut as it reaches newfound popularity Stateside. If it manages to do this, it will potentially be concurrently charting alongside "Goodbye, Goodbye." Stay tuned for more details as this possible chart quirk unfolds!
