The reason this album is so powerful is because she's literally revealing that she had forgive her dad before she could forgive her husband. The move from Daddy Lessons straight into Love Drought, "what did I do wrong?" It's just deep on deep and deep.
And then the next song after that is Sandcastles, which gets into the meat of her pain. "I made you cry, when I walked away, and although I promised, that I couldn't stay baby, every promise don't work out that way."
So she left and had a softening and decided to attempt to work things out. It's a goddamn human love story with all kinds of cracks, bumps, and inconsistencies. That's its success.
