According to JG, even HE didn't think his CD would sell like this. Just a little Christmas souvenir for the fans. JG could have sold 250K and I bet Reprise would have been happy.
I've always thought that Christmas albums, "Greatest Hits", standards albums, tribute albums, and other theme albums were all about extra product the record company could put out to fill in the holes in the budget. Especially xmas product which will sell some every year that the artist picks up new fans who like Christmas music. The company adds it to the catalog and dusts it off each year and sell 10,000 copies or whatever. Of course now, everybody's got one so he might have to do another one in a few years.
