The problem for the GOP is their economic belief system, trickle down economics, has slowly been breaking down and collapsing. Since it's failed they no longer know what they believe, so the easiest solution is just to be anti whatever the other side is. As soon as Russia became anti the democrats and Hillary, they jumped on side with Russia.

Definitely. They've yet to recover from the shame of the Great Recession. But, I think it also has a lot to do with Obama being black.
Republicans won't stop Trump because they know if they do anything to hurt him, his base will POUNCE on them and then they're truly ****ed for the future. Trump is literally the only reason they won this year because he managed to break the blue wall with a populist message, something a traditional republican could have never done. Plus it helped that he went up against a highly unpopular dem candidate as well, but still.
They know their message is trash and doesn't appeal to most people. That's why they're going to try and use Trump to pass things like privatizing Medicare, etc, despite it being very unpopular with almost everyone.
Mess all these emails and letters people are sending to (republican) electors is actually making them annoyed and feeling like they're been forced to do it
Anyway i think people also underestimate just how much democrats/liberals are held to higher standards, so just one scandal for them is enough to be disqualified( see Elizabeth "Pocahontas" Warren be next )
