Gypsy has always seemed like the go-to semi-hit single from the beginning.
I'd be sad if they didn't at least try, even though I know Interscope is weird about stopping singles at a certain point.

Why are you doubting it, though? I think he cares, big time.
Also, when was the last time Lady Gaga had a single with minimal promotion with a quick tour video or the one that isn't over the top? We're talking about Lady Gaga here, not some basic pop starlet, remember? There is no way she's gonna go with let's do the minimum and we all know it.
I agree that Gypsy sounds like a potential hit and I would be sad not seeing it receiving single treatment but at this point, there's more to lose than to gain, imo. IF the single bombs and there is a possibility it will, it would be rather bad for her to have two consecutive underperforming singles. On the other hand, no one outside ATRL would care.

I know that, but they should just opt for a more conservative promotion strategy this time if they're worried about money. I don't know exactly what happens behind the scenes, but I wonder what factors do they take into account when I see other pop stars releasing single after single, specially when one underperforms their labels are quick to move on.
And "Gypsy" has proven itself to have potential since it hit the iTunes Top 100 when she sang it at SNL.

I've been wondering about it too just the other day. Rihanna, for example - if G.U.Y. happened to her, we would have another single with a video already, tour or not, she would be pushed to release a new single just to keep her in the game. It's totally different with Lady Gaga and I guess it has a lot to do with her approach to stuff like this and the whole "music not the bling" theme.
And I didn't know Gypsy went top 100.
