It doesn't sound like modern dance music either. It sounds more like early disco which is closer to R&B. If it was just Pharell singing without Daft Punk's name attached to it, I'm sure everyone would see it as just R&B
I wouldn't really count #Beautiful as "R&B" either though. It's closer to the kind of music Adele/Bruno Mars would make, more of a soul/pop thing. There's a reason why that song isn't doing that well on urban radio and is almost non existent on UAC
