worldwide music sales are so small these days. The only time of year where they are quite better is in December/Late November.

The US music industry will lose 20% of its albums sales again in 2014, as the market is severely down in comparison last year.

The UK and Germany sell aroun 80m albums per year now (France: 45m). The UK peaked with 200m albums sold and Germany with 180m 12 years ago. The US will soon drop below the 200m albums mark.. meaning that by 2016 or so the US music market would be as big as the UK/GER once were.

To compare sales by timelines: The US albums market in 2014 might be as big as it was in 1969-72. Same for the rest of the world. In Scandinavia the market is streaming driven. Many countries don't even include digital albums sales anymore in their charts, some rank their albums not by sales but by revenue (Germany).

it's a huge mess and I assume that by 2020/25 selling 100,000 copies will be the new platinum (even tho the RIAA will never adjust its certifications)

I think we may be close to reaching that point in her career where we'll stop getting albums, but I dont think we're quite there yet. I think the album still have potential to reach good numbers if they push it through the summer and beginning of fall. She has yet to make a live appearance about the album and so I still believe there is potential here. It's just the press is giving her a hard time because she's Mariah Carey.

Hopefully her quietness means she's focused rather than distracted. Remember the last few times when she was quiet she came out and did a media blitz. Let's hope this will be the case, but a more sustainable blitz.

She's currently the laughing stock, despite this being a stellar album.

My hope is that the sales remain consistent to build up to a meaningful number. I also hope that this garners some awards to match the acclaim it has gotten from the industry.

That being said, Mariah knows what she has to do to sell this album.

That being said, Mariah knows what she has to do to sell this album.

This is why I wish Mariah and her team/label had something planned for the release week. They obviously didn't have anything at all and thought she could sell based on her name alone. Well, unfortunately, due to constant push backs, absolutely no promotion, and no single to support this, this album was bound to do terrible in the first week.

Mariah might not care too much about the sales but I hope they seriously do have something under their sleeves. This album is just too good for people to not give it a chance.

That's why YDKWTD needs to be PUSHED. And by PUSHED, I mean HARD. Like you see her all up your face, you hear her all over, YDKWTD is crammed into your every movement, every thought, and every sight when she's promoting it.

'Meteorite' is giving me life today. She needs to get in shape for the summer and release Meteorite as a single. Meteorite is going to save this era imo. Double a-side with YDKWTD followed by Thirsty/Dedicated a-side single in the fall.
