And you practically just restated what I said in your last paragraph, while trying to talk down to me a bit. Her music is of course somewhere between pop and alternative. But go to the pop charts on iTunes or billboard, you're not going to see her. She doesn't have mainstream appeal (what is her highest chatting song? Exactly), nor is her music "generic." There's not quite anone else doing what she's doings right now or even since lungs. I'm not saying she's a complete innovator, rather I'm just saying that "pop" is not the best label for her music. That's all.
Marina's and Florence's music is very different. Yes, Marina is pop, imo. Not completely, but definitely more so than florence, due to the "instruments" she uses and how her music sounds. I'm really not shading pop, since clearly I like a couple pop artists.

'Pop' stands for popular music, of course it changes all the time, that's because everything changes all the time.
And that's also the interesting thing about pop music, it doesn't have any basis, it's a mix of everything and a reflection of the times, well most of the time.
David Bowie was pop even though he used everything from every genre possible, sometimes he was ahead of everything as well.
Michael Jackson was pop, probably the most straightforward s for his time.
Kate Bush was pop, even though it wasn't as straightforward as MJ for example but it was pop because it was popular to a certain extent.
Depeche Mode was pop and their music mixed a lot of genres.
Madonna was pop and I don't even need to explain what she mixed.
Even The Beatles were pop

just because they were mainstream.
Just because artists' like Britney, Rihanna, Christina, Gaga, Katy came along and are labeled pop these days doesn't mean that that is how pop music actually
sounds in general.
Pop music is more about the popularity than the actual sound.
You can't define the sound of pop music because it's just too difficult to pin down.
Just because it isn't dancey doesn't mean it isn't pop music.
Florence headlines huge festivals and has big tours so she's def. pop, she's very popular.
Marina, who sounds 'more pop' according to you, can't do some of the things that Florence does.
She's also pop, yes because she makes radio friendly music but she's below Florence at the end of the day.
Trust me Florence has actually more mainstream appeal than Marina.
They both take things from alternative music but both aren't 100% alternative which is what we already discussed, I guess what I'm trying to say here is if you really want to label them
as far as the sound goes, I'd say they're indie pop.
But Florence def. wins in terms of popularity so inevitably she's more pop in that sense of the word.
