If we’re looking purely at the charts, this debut single from Diddy’s original pop harem is the biggest hit in the rate. In late 2000, it climbed all the way to #2 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming one of several songs to get stuck in the runner-up slot behind Destiny’s Child’s monster “Independent Women Part I.” It seemed Dream had launched for stardom, becoming the first girl group to retire a video from TRL (where “He Loves U Not” also peaked at #2) and earning platinum album sales. In fact, their days at the top of the world were numbered, but this skittering, sassy smackdown of a romantic rival still knock just as hard as it ever did.
Best bit: “You’re pulling petals off a flower trying to get your way/Keep pulling ’til it says what you wanna say/Girl, you can pick a field full of daisies/But he’d still be my baby"
The music video... puts the spinning room from ’N Sync’s “Bye Bye Bye” video to less impressive use.
Anyways the pre-chorus of "He Loves You Not" slays. The whole "You can pout your cherry lips" part.
I didn't even know what the song was called or who it was by until this rqte, but I've had the melody in my head every other day for the last 14 years.
If Samantha loses, she can have her second chance in a hypothetical "one-album artist" rate featuring her, Paris Hilton, Alexis Jordan, Austin Mahone, Fergie, Heidi Montag, Icona Pop, Jennifer Paige, Lorde, Tove Lo etc
