The video remix definitely upped the game, but I'm here for any and all versions.
As I said before, it's about the chorus. Bubblegum pop was essentially for and by children. It's difficult to truly capture the chaste euphoria of young love—such a purely positive emotion—which is why so much tween pop is cheesy and terrible. But when it's done right, it's like lightning in a bottle: incredibly uplifting and universally appealing.

WMN is probably her best single and the best out of all her Rude Boy clones (WMN, Talk that Talk, Roc Me Out).

How are Katy's especially bad songs still in? TGIF and Firework were the only good singles in here imo.
Not to mention California Gurls SMASHED so I don't know why that's gone... not that it bothers me.
Guess I discredit y'all a little too much! ET needs to be out, like, now though...
I'm also ready for Mariah and Janet to hit the road.
And the meaningless Nelly Furtado bunch.
Also, I'm rooting for Madonna. LOVE Music.

Well, at least "What's My Name?" won the 2010 Free for All rate.

She has so many.
I agree. WMN is a good redo of RB, RMO not so much.

But... ET... *sigh*
No longevity tbh. No one is going to know what the hell it is in a few years.

Banana, once a day.
The fact that this song outlasted Rude Boy is stupid as ****. They're the same ****ing song, except Rihanna sounds like she's getting tucked into bed by Jay-Z. It's tired, kinda boring, and the tin drum that sounded fresh and fun on Rude Boy sounds dull and played out on WMN. Oh, and Drake's verse sucks. It's a catchy as hell chorus though, but that's not enough for me.
Screw you guys for putting this in the Top 30, let alone above Rude Boy.
Fun fact: This song went #1 before Only Girl. Weird.
|
This was the number 1 in my rate, yet went out before other songs that participated in that rate... that's interesting. Do these voters have terrible inconsistency with their tastes? Did we get completely different voters? Were Katie's 0's weighted for the lols? (I'm just saying, I think this is the most likely reason!)
Anyways, I think this song is brilliant and should've been one of Rihanna's last 3 with Only Girl and Rude Boy.

Yup. He hasn't been bitching about it as much though
27. Big Girls Don't Cry - Fergie
Average: 7.5806451
Highest: 10 (Aryl, Chemist, jdella11, Gabriel_Spears, Regina George, Katy V!, Jaay, Green) | Lowest: 0.5 (Jinzo)
Two things that make me kii: Fergie's face in the photo, and all the 10s that this song got
It's not that it's a trashy song, because it's a totally decent "personal" song that she put out, but my issue is that she bleats her entire way through it, and the lyrics are kind of stupid . I remember this song was my everything in 2007 though, so I can't really act like I've always been above it. I think I'd probably have given it a 7.
Fun fact: For all his bitching, Ace gave this a 3.

I'm sure the 10's were all for Milo Ventimiglia.

I forgot what I gave it, but I think it was something in the middle. It's a song that's just kind of...there.

Aw, poor Fergie Ferg. She can really sing, though! I feel like if this had been her lead single instead of "London Bridge," people would have such a different perception of her.
