It's a word used to enslave, abuse and dehumanize an entire race. It's a powerful word because of the white oppressors, not because people "give power" to it. You can't just pretend slavery didn't happen and black people aren't still racially abused to this day.

First, you can say "too long, didn't read" and go on with your life if you want. Otherwise...

There is ignorance in both videos, but what i think is petty is that in both videos he was behaving like a child (and was one). He'll be crucified because he's a public figure, but that's what young people do... They don't always think about the weight of their words. What they think is funny and a joke is often offensive.

He owned up to his mistakes. It's not right to behave as though just because we're hearing about this now that it just happened. Also, before anyone goes playing the race card... I am multiracial (black, mexican, & white), gay, and spent a year living in a country where 99.9% of the population was of another race. I don't have time to worry about which majorities or minorities I'm part of, because they don't define me.

I understand that for so many of you who are purely one race it may hold power over you, but I don't think you should place so much power in it. We are all human. We all make mistakes. We all decide what defines us. I am not defending Bieber in any way. I just think this situation presents an opportunity to step back and think about why you place so much power over your race and what other people think and say about it... What really defines you? Is it one thing, or is it a combination of a bunch of things?

It's not as bad as everyone thinks it is I've been in middle school and am currently in high school and white people, Latina people, black people, even Asian people use the word.
