Why are people comparing Alvin and The Chipmunks to The Girl With The Dragon Tatoo? On average family/children films tend to gross more then any other film genre, outside of maybe action films.
let alone predecessors of Alvin and The Chipmunks were huge hit.
The first weekend of January typically features a horror film opening, and this year it’s THE DEVIL INSIDE playing that part. It is off to a fantastic start, surpassing any pre-release projections. Right now the theatre average is treading in the same neighborhood that the SAW films did, although this one is at about 800 less locations. At any rate, expect a Friday gross decently north of $10 million (which includes the $2 million they made at Midnight last night), and a weekend that’s likely to be in the mid to high 20’s.
Any predictions that put it DEVIL INSIDE competition for the lead with last weekend’s winner MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE are now looking quite off-base. MISSION should have a decent hold off of last weekend’s $29 million, but one that will put them in the mid to high teens.
As for those in the awards hunt, TINKER, TAILOR, SOLDIER, SPY expands to about 800 locations today. They’re looking pretty good, and should be able to pull in $4-6 million for the weekend.
Oh it was an acquisition? And $1M? Profitable after the 1st day

The Devil Inside is off to a very good start at the box office. The thriller was able to rake in $2 million from midnight shows at around 1,400 locations—a solid figure considering that Paramount acquired the film for $1 million.
Earning 33 times the budget this weekend with ****** quality
It got such bad reviews and reactions. I actually wanted to see it.
It siad:
According to distributor Paramount Pictures, 16 percent of viewers gave The Devil Inside an "A" CinemaScore, while 19 percent went the opposite way and slammed it with an "F".
Ok guys, it really wasn't that bad. Everything was good up until the ending. I don't know what the **** that was
But the actresses playing the possessed victims did a great job.. At least.
That is a gigantic number. Too bad it wasn't for an actual good movie. I wish it was The Woman in Black that opened that big. (though I'm not even sure if that'll be good...)
It's going to crash and burn for the rest of its run though.
My friend just texted me if I wanted to go see it... Hopefully we see something else.
Really? I heard it was HORRIBLE. My babe is going to see it with his cousins in a few so i'll see what he thought of it later tonight. But Tha Darkest Hour was so much of a mess if not more. Me and my baby fell asleep after everyone got killed at the club. Straight garbage.
