That season did kind of tie their hands with the finale. Made it seem like they went to the digital world just for fun after that last fight in 02. So you have to undo it.
But Davis showed up in Digimon Fusion. Is that show retconned out of existence too then, or just the fact that Davis showed up?
Though I wouldn't mind seeing a follow-up of the Digimon Rangers from S4. Takuya/Zoe/JP/Tommy/Koji/Koichi definitely deserve to exist more than the S2 team.

I don't really think that's on their radar right now. Basically the producers needed a way to make the series about the 01 cast and the 3 new characters for the OVA. Having 4 02 kids would have bloated it.
Figuring that the 02 kids aren't as liked by the fans and that it would be impossible to balance that many character arcs in 6 episodes, it made sense to trim the fat. It also makes the enemy appear more diabolical.
even if spoilers were true, i'm certain they'll fix the timeline somehow, alphamon ultimately is a good digimon and i think killing off once very popular characters, is very extreme for digimon standards
