It's easy to talk badly about DADT in retrospect, but the intent behind it was to protect gay soldiers from being forced to reveal their sexuality in a time where anti-gay sentiments were still high.
Also why do you mention DOMA as some sort of counterpoint when Bernie was never a pioneer in same sex marriage? In fact, even up til 2006, he said he was only in favor of civil unions.
Jesus Christ I suddenly feel like I'm back in 2015 defending Hillary from inane arguments. LGBT rights were remarkably quick in their advancement compared to women's and racial rights. Quoting issues from decades ago is short-sighted and foolish.

lol you make no sense. the rhetoric that we use to discuss issues of race, class, gender, and sexuality determines how we approach these issues in practice. applying the same logic you just used, one could say that the Congressman saying gays serving openly in the military is disgusting is "just talk" and doesn't do anything to harm anyone when, in actuality, this disrespectful rhetoric sets the tone for how gays in the military will be treated in the laws passed by Congress.
also marriage equality - both in Vermont and in the US at large - was achieved through a series of court decisions so I'm not sure how Bernie would have been able to pioneer same sex marriage as a legislator.
he did, however, vote against DOMA which Hillary defended as early as last year
