(1) I agree that he was basically destined to be President after Bernie lost the primary - the American populist movement that started in 2009 has been gradually gaining momentum and it refused to be ignored in this election. Really, either party could have tapped into that movement and channeled it toward a huge win but Democratic party elites decided to go with a morally bankrupt, universally-hated Wall Street crony instead.
(2) As Mitch McConnell said, you can hope that a President's destructive policies fail - and work to undermine and sabotage those policies - without rooting for him to cause a global nuclear war. There is a little area in between there. The President's success is in our best interest only to a certain extent: if Trump is successful in privatizing Medicare/deporting millions of undocumented immigrants/deregulating Wall Street/re-investing in coal and natural gas then we will suffer.
