This is an incredibly stupid question, so bear with me: but how do you know whether or not a certain topic or article has been posted already? Do you get WP's for posting a topic/discussion/article that's already been posted in the past?

I'd suggest Googling "site:atrl.net [keywords of article]" and see what comes up; or, if it's about a celebrity, use the search tool at the top to search their name and see what recent threads have been made about them. Also, when you're on the page to make a thread, there will be a box that shows you "Similar Threads" which might contain the thread for the article/topic if it was already created.

Don't worry, if you do make an already posted threaded by accident you won't receive a warning point, the thread will just be closed/merged with the other.
