Of course. But they also want someone they also believe in. Why do you think so many of Bernie's supporters had a hard time getting on board with Clinton? It's why a lot of conservatives had a hard time coming around to Romney at first because he flip flopped on a lot of his views in order to appeal to conservatives. This isn't exclusive to this election. This sentiment has always been around.

They'll go right back to "the establishment" as soon as the Trump experiment cracks.

Yeah, I don't see "the establishment" ever being in good standing with a majority of the country. Most of the time people aren't given any other option outside of the establishment candidate unless they're fringe/third party candidates. You could probably attribute that as
one of the reasons our country has one of the lowest voter turnouts.
The anger in the country isn't just going to go away. Again, anger at the system wasn't invented with this election. It's just for the first time there were mainstream populist candidates who were able to tap into the anger that has always existed. You could argue that it's become mainstream now. If anything, Trump failing to deliver will probably make them even more angry. Not to mention, the establishment of the democratic party couldn't even beat Donald Trump, something that should have been an easy victory.
I can't imagine most people running back to the establishment with open arms.
