Ya'll are not serious..................... Freaking out over Wendy saying "Oh my Gosh!!!" but a song like Anaconda being a huge hit the past few months........................???
Who doesn't take the piss out of dumb valley girls? And a sassy black woman? And a "ganster" :skull
That's not bad. It's funny, it's so harmless. Unless she said "All white girls are dumb and all black people are like this and low class", then I don't see the problem...
Red Velvet f'ed up again this time it was Wendy with stereotyping white woman, black women and men whilst doing impressions of them. Bitch didn't you grouw up in Canada? There goes her US debut. 14: 00 start in video
but then that person saying "*tyra banks voice*" like...

Yes because the only type of black guy you see are over violent. Its never like they stereotype or impersonate Denzel Washington or Morgan Freeman, they always go for the overly violent black man. ITs not cute and personally annoying and insensitive which is why people not of my own race categorize me as nonblack. You find this stuff funny SOTE?
But you kow what since thats so okay why don't I take my fingers make my eyes slant and use jibberish and say I'm impmresonating a Korean since its so funny and harmless.
Slanting your eyes with your fingers is akin to blackface for me. But Wendy didn't do that (yet I expect now people to dredge up every Korean who has). She made an impression. Like Nicki has done all this summer. I don't really find it anything. It's a mountain out of a molehill. It's not hilarious, it's not offensive. It's meh.
Let's be real now sis.... you think Morgan Freeman's voice is easily replicable? Especially Wendy, with her high pitch??
She also never said all black men are anything. She simply said a gangster. It's you who's perceiving it that way. Something tells me if she left it at the "valley girl", nobody would even care

I would care....as a GBF to a few persons of caucasian descent, why do you think i brought up the white thing in my first post about it. its my duty to protect my white friends for this type of personification as they are strong brave intelligent white women who knows how to talk using real words.
Quote from a black person living in korea....
Quote:
Firstly I saw the video at 14:55, and she specifically said she was doing "a black man," so let's cut the crap. Secondly, everyone who is dismissing this as "not a big deal" really needs to wake up to reality of race relations and the perception of black people in South Korea.
There are a significant number of Koreans who are literally afraid of black people. They see the representations of us on TV and in movies and really think that we are all loud, and stupid, and violent. That we all talk like rappers and snap our necks when we argue. And as a black person living in Korea, I know full well that these kinds of things do not help, but simply add to those negative perceptions. And what makes it worse is that apparently this girl spent some time in the West, so people are going to think, "well, she must know what she is talking about."
There are very, VERY few POC in Korean media (pretty much just Sam) who can combat this kind of ignorance, but that has real consequences. I have had many Korean friends tell me that they were so glad that they met me, because before they were so afraid of black people because of what they saw on TV (they thought we were all violent, loud, and/or aggressive). I have had career counselors tell me that it will be very difficult when I start my final push for a job because people have negative perceptions of black people, thinking that we can't function normally in the workplace.
I can see where people could find it insensitive, but I really don't think it's that big a deal. Especially when it wasn't meant maliciously.
Oh girl, it's not THAT bad that you need to protect someone
I'm white. She can act dumb all she wants. It isn't lowering my IQ.
Regardless, I stand by my point. Even if YOU include the white remark (which everyone should as it's as "offensive"), the tweet you linked didn't and we all know it will not be the comment that will upset people most, or snowball her into an apology. People will use any excuse to say one is worse than the other, it's not the same thing and it will descend into a Tumblr mess that I'm going to stay out of.
OH's thread title alone proves that
The brackets speak volumes and like I said earlier, if it was just left as the brackets, there wouldn't even be a topic made. People would still be posting that AOA girl falling on her face.
EDIT: I see the term "POC" and I rebuke ha. That term is beyond ignorant, so any person crying a victim of ignorance should know better.

White people aren't an oppressed minority in America.
Quote:
When you remove imperialism, colonialism, slavery, segregation, privilege, and institutionalized inequality from the equation, then yes, it looks like there’s a double standard, but remind me of a time when white people–as a whole–were subjected to centuries upon centuries legally permissible, socially accepted racism. We still live in a country where people find it offensive to see a mixed race couple and their child, where Twitter users lose their minds if somebody sings “America The Beautiful” in anything other than English, where brands would rather paint a white model black than use a black model to represent their products. Stores like Macy’s still detain black shoppers under suspicions of shoplifting after they purchased items in the store. The list goes on.
I'd also like to say that they're imitating things they see on TV. Like with Yuri. I'd be inclined to believe they're smart enough to know that things on TV are fiction and they wouldn't expect every black person to gesture death threats at them

This basically.
Given the fact that Korea is basically 99% Koreans with very little "foreign" interactions, they don't know much
That's why they make some culturally offensive/borderline racist jokes within themselves since no one is around to give them a dirty look or educate them
As for Wendy, since she lived in Canada, I guess she could've done and known a bit better

The same people who make fun of people for being "too dark". I totally bet thats the case. Korea for the most part keyword most part...white is right. White is bright where is my bleaching cream tonight.

That's their culture sis
I might not agree with it and you don't but you can't expect them to change their ideals to please us westerners. Now if it was a North Korean situation, then yano, I would advise them to listen to us but it's far from it and that's their heritage. Who am I - an Irish person - to tell them to change it?
It's not even that they want to be white. I'm so over people STILL thinking Korean's want to be white, as in caucasian
They want to be lighter. Light skin is a sign of royalty. Darker skin (not black) is seen as a sign of slavery/being poor. They don't want double eyelids to look "westernised". They want it to look more awake, as a monolid can make East Asian's tired looking. Small eyes = sleep looking. Squint your own eyes and you'll understand quick. I'm not saying they ALL look tired and perhaps some have got it done because they liked how a girl from Finland looked, but I would bet 90% of Koreans get it done for their own culture, not to look like a white person

That quote didn't come from tumblr it came from an article about white face vs black face.
But that's either here nor there. You have two black people telling you what Wendy did was wrong and offensive but you still seem dead set on defending on her I'm just really confused as to why you as a white man from Scotland or Ireland (I forget) can go online and talk about race relations.
You're embarrassing yourself tbqh

Please stop babying South Korea. They have the fastest internet on the planet, they have universities, they have African decent refugees. They have every resource at their disposal to not be ignorant as hell but they keep doing crap like this.

So being from Ireland means I can't have an opinion on race relations? Or white? Is that not racist to say - that I can't do something because of my race...?
I don't care if you're purple sis. Feelings aren't facts. Like Yuri (again). She was asked to imitate a black character from a Japanese anime. She was imitating the CHARACTER - NOT black people as a whole. They said "black" to describe the character so Yuri knew which one and there's 0 wrong with that. I'd also imagine it's QUITE fast to pinpoint a black character on a Japanese show, since there would be little to none.
I'm going backwards in talking to you, but as for your first sentence I wasn't referencing it being from Tumblr. I was saying I knew it was only a matter of time before someone said they weren't the same level of ignorance and you proved that to be true.

I literally just looked up the original segment for that clip and it's her getting a failed tan
Racist right?
Don't come for SOTE too much. Ireland is also very different than the US. They are a lot more blunt and straightforward so matters like this there are more so out of fun than insult.

No offence sis but America is MESSED up when it comes to race. Like ya'll have serious issues and I don't blame minorities for having them given the history but.... my GOD! It's bad. I'm always shocked at the extremes some people still get offended by, or how they cling onto the past. I see that in my country too with the British/IRA but it's so stupid to me. What good is it to hold onto something negative that you never lived through?
Like when the Queen visited Ireland for her first time 3 years ago, it was chaos in some places
And all I could think of is how disgusting, low class, idiotic and uneducated scum these people are
I don't think Irish people are blunt. I am, but we're not as a whole. We simply have a PG history with race, compared to the NC-17 cut America got and as such, our mindsets are vastly different. What you see as offensive, I see as perfunctory. Not always of course. In this situation, yes.
