I work at Bershka and we get sent a new cd every month with random songs, some of them are hits but some of them are not. On the last cd we got Me & The Rhythm and Kill'em With Kindness by Selena and also I Didn't Just Come Here to Dance by Carly.
It depends but most of the time the label just wants to promote the album by paying to play a random song. People tend to Shazam songs they hear on stores, even people ask me sometimes the name of the songs.
It's really smart tbh.
So with that said, Stars being played at a mall or store means truly nothing.
I highly doubt it's a single.
