it's not that the Libertarian party wasn't stealing Hill's votes - it's that they were stealing votes equally from Hill and Trump. Almost every poll shows Johnson polling equally well with Democrats and Republicans (at least nationally).

Polls were wrong, evidently. Exit polls showed that only 11% of the ones who disliked Hillary voted for her while 15% of those who disliked Trump voted for him. That's a 4% difference. There was a clear Hillary boycott on the Hillary side that trumps the #NeverTrump movement.

okay that's fair but (1) that doesn't mean that those people voted overwhelmingly for Gary Johnson and (2) I'm very skeptical of exit poll-based conclusions in general and especially in this election

That's why, once all the votes are counted in, I'm re-averaging the exit polls based on actual voting #s and sending them to the journalists that follow me on Twitter.

also, just as an aside I'm skeptical of exit polls more because they are self-reported and therefore completely non-random in their selection of participants. so even when they are adjusted for the actual voting numbers they're still dubious at best

but really, people are such psychos to try to come for someone on racism who worked alongside MLK Jr. in the '60s. like he obviously knows racism has never died, he clearly means racism as a normalized point of view in politics and everyday life

But the thing is it absolutely is normalized but he refuses to acknowledge that. And that's very understandable.
When Hillary did that, it was either viewed as trivial (Alt-right speech) or elitist (deplorable/irredeemable) so it's a damned if you do/damned if you don't situation.
