Ryan's said all the seasons are connected so yeah they are, it probably wasn't intentional to begin with but no doubt Ryan will spin something in the future to make them related

actually every season is in the same universe. Ryan said that ever since he started the show he wanted them all to connect but couldnt start doing that until some seasons aired. Freak Show was where he started. Pepper and Sister Mary Eunice.

In Hotel, it'll have more crossover characters starting either in or after the 6th episode. Other than that the Montgomery connection is just speculation. The writers can easily make them connect in the future or leave it as it is now.

Woo lord. Just watched Welcome to Briarcliff for the first time in a while and he'll struggle to top that opener and Asylum in general. I think it's the single greatest season of television ever in all honesty. Almost completely perfect.
