My personal thoughts overall on Coven
+
- I loved how up to date it was with modern online culture and references, I thought it played that role exceptionally well, and the characters embodied that perfectly.
- Great takes on stereotypical characters eg: Madison (The bitch)
- Acting was on point (for the most part)
- Jessica Lange
- Marie Laveau's attitude/personality, certain remarks she would make were hilarious
- Episode 5 and 9 were stand outs
- Wasn't overly predictable up until the end
- Some really great horror moments/Iconic takes on certain horror scenarios
-
- Was unable to invest in characters, because you knew at any point they could die/come back (besides Fiona)
- It was to soap opera-ish at times and not enough horror (although when the horror was good, it was gold)
- Some episodes felt rushed for whatever reason, the finale for me being one of them
- The finale didn't bring it to a boiling point like Asylum did, by the end of Asylum I was strangely moved by the whole series
- Ryan Murphy leaves a lot of things unanswered (Did Misty stay in hell or was she released, because if she stayed in hell she was not deserving of that, as she was good person, and I don't know how Cordelia and everyone else could just be okay with that and not feel guilty and overly mourn)
I could probably think of a lot more for both positives and negatives, but I don't have the time. I thought it was a great overall season, and the thing that I love is that there is this kind of concept in franchises were each season/sequel get's worse and worse until eventually the series dies out, personally from experience this happens to a lot of the shows/movies I have liked in the past basically because they just want to continue making as much money of the franchise, even if that means diminishing the name of the brand. But Coven brought something new and exciting to the table, the concept of American Horror Story and being able to tell multiple stories through the series' I think will give this show a lot of longevity, and people will have there own personal favourites according to what they like, coming into this I didn't really care for witches, but I left rather satisfied.
I applaud the creators (I only know Ryan Murphy) but I'm sure there are more geniuses behind the show

I'm sad that Jessica will be leaving after season 4, as she just brings the show to an absolute other level, her acting is really something else, I hope they figure out how to match that, because there will be a big hole in the series once she leaves.
Overall my stance is
Asylum > Coven > Murder House
And that order excites me, because I'm glad it didn't go Murder House > Asylum > Coven it just shows that each season will hopefully be just as exciting as the next, and boy am I excited for season 4!
