Because when Lana did this after a very successful debut era, her album release was a non event and sold less than half of her previous effort. I don't want this to happen with Nicki, so I for one am glad she's aimed for top 40 with her pre-album singles.
I hope she gives some more adventurous tracks the single treatment in 2015 because I want the public to see how varied she can be (if the album provides material that's experimental for her to release, of course).
Well when an artist truly doesn't care about the sales but only cares about the quality of the music. Then the impact that you speak of will come from the quality of the music & word of mouth.

For anyone confused, the EMAs start at 9PM in Europe which is 3PM EST I believe. You have to watch the stream. MTV is just showing the whole thing at 7PM EST in the US.
