A lot of EDM songs surged today for whatever reason, so I think it's a good time to post this.
Recently, EDM/dance-pop songs have tended to do significantly better on Spotify than on any other metric.
We saw this happen with Firestone last year making the top 20 on Spotify despite its inability to crack the top 90 of the Hot 100, and there has again been an influx of these types of songs on Spotify lately.
It's a very interesting phenomenon, to say the least.
EDM/dance songs in the Spotify top 50 today: how are they doing on other metrics?
*note that Streaming Songs (which measures overall streaming) is only a 25-position chart.
I Took A Pill In Ibiza - #7 Spotify, #8 iTunes, #24 Hot 100, #40 overall radio, N/A Streaming Songs
Roses - #7 overall radio, #8 Spotify, #9 Hot 100, #12 Streaming Songs, #14 iTunes
Don't Let Me Down - #20 Spotify, #75 iTunes, N/A Hot 100, N/A overall radio, N/A Streaming Songs
Stay - #21 Spotify, #345 iTunes, N/A Hot 100, N/A overall radio, N/A Streaming Songs
Lush Life - #24 Spotify, #383 iTunes, N/A Hot 100, N/A overall radio, N/A Streaming Songs
Never Forget You - #26 Spotify, #34 iTunes, #83 Hot 100, #100 overall radio, N/A Streaming Songs
Bang My Head - #35 Spotify, #93 Hot 100, #194 iTunes, #306 overall radio, N/A Streaming Songs
Sugar - #37 Spotify, #45 iTunes, #49 overall radio, #56 Hot 100, N/A Streaming Songs
Middle - #41 Spotify, #46 iTunes, #86 overall radio, #70 Hot 100, N/A Streaming Songs
Faded - #43 Spotify, #321 iTunes, N/A overall radio, N/A Hot 100, N/A Streaming Songs
All My Friends - #44 Spotify, #481 iTunes, N/A overall radio, N/A Hot 100, N/A Streaming Songs
Fast Car - #48 Spotify, #197 iTunes, N/A overall radio, N/A Hot 100, N/A Streaming Songs
Roses is easily the biggest hit of these, and it's no surprise that it is the most well-rounded. ITAPII is on its way, and it will begin to really pick up steam on radio soon.
But 8 out of the other 10 songs have big disparities between their positions on Spotify and some of their positions on other metrics.
Are some of the popular Spotify playlists heavy with this genre of music? (I legitimately don't know- I only take quick peeks at them.) Does the Spotify demographic disproportionately like it? This data opens up a lot of interesting questions.

So Spotify users love urban music and EDM/electronic songs.

i just think spotify serves well for listeners that want "background music" or party playlists with alot of songs and that can just go on with shuffle mode. not as much focus on the individual song, like non-dance music

Cruise's two versions combined have around 133 million. The original has 78 million, with the remix having around 55 million. Since Cruise is split neither version has 100 million.
