I don't think that sitting out an election is the answer in any case. Even if the two major party nominees are contrary to what you would like, I think it's absolutely essential to either choose one or find a third-party / independent candidate with whom you align more closely, and cast a vote.
I don't know about your political ideologies, but more and more people failing to vote is a huge detriment to politics; we need to know where our people stand and what they want. I live most of the time in Iowa and we just elected a Tea Partier to the Senate who would likely have lost with better turnout from Democrats (and if his campaign sucked less). That idea doesn't sit well with me. Even if fuller turnout all around would have still yielded the result we got, I want that - I want everyone's voice accurately represented.
IDK, it's just an opinion I've held for years. Only 57.5 percent of eligible voters participated in the last election, and that really worries me.
