Indie pop is a genre of alternative rock music that originated in the United Kingdom in the mid-1980s, with its roots in Scottish post-punk bands on the Postcard Records label in the early 1980s (Josef K and Orange Juice) and the dominant UK independent band of the mid-1980s, the Smiths. Indie pop was inspired by punk's DIY ethic and related ideologies, and it generated a thriving fanzine, label, and club and gig circuit. Indie pop differs from indie rock to the extent that it is more melodic, less abrasive, and relatively angst-free.

The song itself is great and it was a special soundtrack of a special period of my life
No Rest For the Wicked
Lykke Li
Lykke Li is, according to all official sources, an indie pop artist with absolutely no significant chart success. Her music, and especially this song, is a great representation of indie pop, because it's melodic, angst-free and barely abrassive, so it matches the definition of the genre that you posted along with the challenge. It's very personal to me because of its lyrical content. It's about letting down the one person that you love the most and the loneliness that inevitably follows. Lyrics like "I let my good one down, I let my true love down" and "Lonely, I'm so alone now" are definitely relatable for anyone who's ever ruined a good relationship in whatever way, including myself*
Ottoman
Vampire Weekend
Ottoman by Vampire Weekend. My favorite song of theirs, but also one of their lesser known.
Step
Vampire Weekend
Step is one of the best Vampire Weekend songs ever. But what made it very personal for me is that, it was the first song my love and I memorized. This is the song that makes me cry everytime I remember all the times we had.
Feels Like Coming Home
Jetta
When I first heard this song on the Google Zeitgeist commercial, it immediately hit me. Its meaning is about coming back to a familiar groove in your life after something major has happened to you. That's what the "feels like coming home" metaphor is about: getting refamiliarized with life while not knowing how to go about it. I related to this song because I have had the feeling where I had to get back into a groove after something happened in my life. In addition, Jetta's ethereal vocals make this song utter perfection.
Disparate Youth
Santigold
"Disparate Youth is about a young couple in love... with all odds against them.
A disparate couple. Two persons so different but brought together by love.
Just like the couple, we, too were in love. An intergenerational love. He was 43. I was 17.
A difference of 26 years. But we made it work. Or so it seems.
People were against us. We were against us.
But love has given us a dream of a life together. ""A life worth fighting for."""
Walk In the Park
Beach House
This song is about getting over a breakup, describing all the different ways how your life is affected after the other person leaves. I still have moments where I feel the emptiness from breaking up with my ex even though I have moved on for the most part, and this song expresses that for me perfectly.
Cameras
Matt and Kim
I chose "Cameras" by Matt & Kim because of it's message of living life, which is something EVERYONE should be doing. They talk about not living life through cameras, just use your eyes instead. Why sit behind a camera seeing people have fun. WHy not just have the fun yourself. Memories are way better then photos. Its pesonal because this is a moto that I do live by.
Let It Go
Anna Rossinelli
I love listening to European music from artists who are not from the UK and not popular worldwide. This song is my all-time favorite. I don't know if it's personal or not, but it's really close to my heart.
Dragging You Around (feat. Sia)
Greg Laswell
After getting out of relationships of mine, this song represents every guy who came after my very last. The song discusses about dragging the person around (metaphorically of course) and thats what I've always ended up doing, regardless of how nice or different. My emotional walls would be so barricaded that I'd ended up treating them like ****, over and over again. Burning myself in the process only because they've allowed me to.
