I'm aware this song was released in 2012 but truth be told it hasn't left my personal playlist ever since. I strongly believe this song will become part of Ed Sheeran's legacy. Truly a masterpiece. The most powerful part of the song is when he is basically yelling into the microphone "give me love". That amount of raw emotion and desperation is very hard to feign, and only those who have experienced it will understand its depth. I honestly can't wait for his next album.
Leona Lewis "Lovebird"
Words can't describe how sad was the fate of the Glassheart era. Thing is, her team keeps trying to control her every move and the results are always atrocious. Wrong single choices, terrible timing, insufficient promo and on top of that her album was pushed back like 400 times. Poor Leona was obviously doomed to flop. "Lovebird" was (and still is) my favorite song of the album, it was love at first listen. Hopefully Leona will take control of her own career and come back stronger with her next album.
P!nk feat. Nate Ruess "Just Give Me A Reason"
To be honest this song wasn't meant to be part of my top 10. It's not that it doesn't deserve it, it's just that it was overplayed to the pits of hell and back this year. By the end of the summer I swear I couldn't bear to listen to it anymore. A few weeks back when I started compiling this list and I made sure I re-listened to all the possible candidates several times I reconnected with it. There's something special about this song, it's not about the vocals, it's just the sentiments and the melody doing all the work. This is also P!nk's 6th consecutive time in my year-end top 10.
OneRepublic "If I Lose Myself"
Despite the feel-good vibe it can give us, this song was originally conceived with a darker interpretation. It's about feeling a sheer cold panic, like waking up on a plane that's falling down but then looking at the people around you and suddenly feeling like everything's gonna be okay. It's a shame this song got paid dust, not even that ugly Alesso remix could save it. Thankfully Counting Stars saved the whole era but IILM is the better song in my opinion.
Taylor Swift feat. Ed Sheeran "Everything Has Changed"
A lot of people might have expected this song to be my #1, myself included. I do love both Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran to death this decade, and the fact that they managed to know each other and agree to work together despite being from different countries and genres is unbelievable. But when it comes down to the song itself, I have to say it's not number one material. The positive side is the music video is probably my favorite of the year, it's so cute. I really hope this isn't the last time they collaborate.
