I also remember his excitement about the other collaboration. I doubt the "worst", mostly likely warming up for the other song.

I think it's just marketing strategy for Ed to say that.
Edit: Unfortunately, the other collaboration was not released, but X is great, so it's OK.
It's a lovely song.
