There are clearly songs that should have been #1 hits (like I Knew You Were Trouble.) but they were held back by streaming. Rihanna is the only one of the main pop girls who has had an On-Demand Songs #1 (with Diamonds, but she hasn't released any of the other songs on there so her odds are slim to none for her current singles unless she discounts like Bruno did).

The fact that it is already big in Europe and is being used as promo for her concert documentary here in the US
It has already peaked in the top 40 in the UK, Canada, Australia, and Japan

Yeah, but in general it's not "harder" to get a #1. Because there's still always gonna be a #1. It's just gonna be harder for some artists (such as some pop girls, country artists, artists aimed at older audiences etc.) to get #1s, but it benefited others (streaming freaks and teen sensations) at the same time, so it's not harder to get a #1, it's just that different types of songs will get #1s more frequently under these new rules.

JGMAR has a ton of room to grow. I don't follow the streaming chart, but I'd assume that it would need strong streaming to get to the summit. Its sales and airplay are great right now.

It seems that songs are staying at #1 for longer though, thus meaning less songs are going #1.
