Idk the context of the argument but Lorde Blackout is correct. The first Japanese people on the island were unrefined and wild. they were later driven back by the newcomers from the Island of Kyushu and the Chugoku region, later driven out of Kansai, Kanto etc all the way to the north. These people were the ancestors of the current Japanese people however they themselves weren't a proper nation. The Japanese later had alot of interactions with the Chinese and Korenas (well by then most of korea was under the heels of the Chinese government). They copied alot of things from China along with many aspects of the language.
